My objection to Apple is their highly predatory approach to IP protection. They are (and have been) master patent trolls. I was seriously considering buying an iPhone 5 until their recent victory over Samsung. Now, they can lick my balls. I almost want to buy an S3 out of spite.

However, from a design and manufacturing POV, Apple is exceptional, and IMO deserves being considered visionary.

As for charging for customer support it's a crazy complex issue. If you want quality customer support, paying people who know WTF they're talking about, it's going to cost you, either in the product price or as a support price. Decoupling from the product price at least allows super users to reduce their total cost of ownership.

I used to be a pc, but now I'm an Apple. I caught it for a long time, but when my Toshiba laptop failed after a year Be my gf's macbook was going strong for years. I couldn't ignore the cost savings. I got an inactivity first to work on my racing videos. It is awesome. I'be had it for two years not. Single problem. I got my macbook pro in Feb. Works great all the time. I bought parrallel to run window and the MAC OS at the same time. The window seven struggle in comparison. The issue is that all gov websites are windows based and my traqmate software only works on windows. I will be switching to the iPhone 5 many just due to having everything else Apple.

Ben... c'mon. Like Bose Im willing to bet they dont sell anything without at least a 500% mark up. The iPhone av cable is over $100... unlike smaller companies, they dont have to pass the cost of customer support on to the consumer. They can just be minimally less greddy and swallow it.

Carlos Im surpirsed, we have 4 Toshibas in my family, all have been completely problem free. Two of them are 5 and 6 years old, and are still firing on all cylinders.

Were you running Norton anti-virus? Norton sucks. Back in early 2000s we used Norton on everything, and periodically got viruses. I use McAffee now, and have been since we got the first Toshiba, never a virus, ever. Knock on wood

iPhone gross margins run around 35% as I recall. And no, they obviously do not have to just swallow it. People accept the trade on offer.

My Toshiba has been running essentially 24/7 for a couple years. Believe it or not MS Security Essentials seems to be adequate.

Drunk post from Droid. Don't care about the mark ups when every Apple product I have purchased works great. I can't say the same for my previous laptops from (Toshiba, Gateway, Sony).

I'll never buy an apple product but that is because I care more about how stuff works then how it looks.

Apple makes stuff that work with other apple stuff that's it. The flavor of BSD that they use is crap and crippled and its hard as hell to find software that will compile correctly on the damn thing with out a ton of shit that needs to be upgraded for no damn reason.

And i've never run any AV software (still have one windows pc in the house) and have never gotten a virus. But I dont go to shady sites and install crap like that.

What kinda anti-virus were you running? PCs need good anti-virus software, because the poor people who make viruses cant afford to buy Macs.

Ben, no way, my phones msrp was $750. No way does it cost apple $400 to make an iphone. And I assume thats not their bread and butter anyways, accessories pull in a much higher profit, proportionally.

And Im not saying they have to eat it, but they certainly can. Its Apple... heard of em? Ha

This is a very common response from most who end up using and owning it. Most who hate haven't OWNED it and I laugh at their uneducated snap judgements.

Have you ever tried an Apple product? I bought all sorts of video editing software to edit my track videos and they all worked like shit. Until I got an Apple, then magically Imovie works great. I even tried different brand of cameras (gopro, sony, kodak) all the same.

I will state it again every PC i have ever owned has had problems. Every Apple I have owned has been flawless.

I was running Norton or McAfree. Don't really remember. The motherboard failed on it.

To state that people buy Apple product because they look good is the stupidest thing you have ever posted (almost). The simply perform better and offer more features.

The iPhone, iPod and iPad have used the same cables since inception with iPod being the exception to the rule UNTIL the introduction of the iPhone.

It was an iphone 4. It didnt work with any wireless printer ive come across. Even to date, all our tv's that have usb inputs obviously wouldnt mirror like my droid was able to. Now with my photon i can even stream HD video. Pretty cool stuff. Plus android compatible stereos are so much easier to use the apple ones. No shuffle, no folder searching, just song after song. Which is really a pain when you have a couple thousand songs. I still have my ipods, but they're more beater song devices now. My photon absolutely blows the iphone out of the water with song quality. Shit it even trumps my other mp3 players, so much so i dont even want to use them. My walkman 8gb was my favorite for working out cause its tiny and i havnt touched it because of how much better it sounds.
Plus i like 3rd party apps.

That's why you have to Jailbreak your iPhone/iPod/iPad. You can do so much more with it that way. Only downside is there is more work to doing system updates, but that's because most of the updates are to stop you from jailbreaking. I like my 4S a lot better now that it's jailbroken.

Spot on. It's anyone's race with new phones to market ad to which one will have the most compatibility. But jail breaking the iPhone makes it the best, most versatile device out the. Period.

A decade in the industry helps you form an educated opinion :)

Oh shit, I missed this. Uh, you're delusional if you don't understand that MANY MANY people buy Apple for the brand image, cool factor, and design. Secondly from feature sets they are often NOT No. 1. Again, they build excellent product, especially for total systems that are pretty easy to use and *tend* to just work, but the Apple empire is heavily built around design aesthetics. My brother is a designer and looked into Apple. They are RUTHLESS to designers. Why bother if that's not a critical factor for success?

That's what I hate about people and Apple products. People just buy the latest and greatest just because. I bought my 4S because my 3GS was junk and kept on crashing.
