Sean, I have a few people that want to know the address for the "There's a McDonald's and Starbucks within walking distance of the meet up location."
Some of the LA people may want to meet up there, so what time would we estimate being there?

Alrighty boys and girls, we have a whole new ball game on our hands.
Hwy 2 just (literally 20 minutes ago) opened up all the way through. There is no need to turn around. I will map a route and test it, but we'll probably stop at the same place for a break, then continue on through and come return via Azusa.

That is AWESOME news!
Any mention of if you guys are stopping for lunch at that same place you did last year? Or are you just going to plow through? I think maybe a potty stop for those who need it might be in order...or should we just line it up over the edge of the cliff? JK

No lunch at Newcombs. There are restrooms at the top where I still think we'll stop. Plenty of pull offs where you can do your business au natural if you need to.

Sean has floated the idea, and it makes some sense, of maybe separating into two broad groups.
I shall call them:
Group A - Dukes of Hazard
Group B - Driving Miss Daisy
You get the idea. I know BADDASS wants to push a little. I push a little. Nothing so extreme or dangerously illegal, just a little fun. But some are just out for a nice relaxing cruise.
What say ya'lls?

Just to clarify, I think we're going to have so many cars that you would have a solid amount in both groups. It's not as if the Group B would be only 3 cars or something. In fact, I'm planning on being in Group B probably

Depending, maybe we'll even do three groups as I honestly think I'd fall somewhere in between. We'll see.
Anyway, it's just an idea. You can get blocked real easy on these roads and there are often police looking for trouble makers, so there isn't going to be any Gumball action.

I'll clean this up, but this is basically the route I'm thinking of taking (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=W+Orangethorpe+Ave&daddr=34.133405,-117.973938+to:Angeles+Crest+Hwy%2FCA-2+to:Angeles+Crest+Hwy%2FCA-2%2FForest+Hwy+Route+FH61+to:Lone+Pine+Canyon+Rd+t o:Lytle+Creek+Rd+to:Mount+Baldy+Rd+to:W+Orangethor pe+Ave&hl=en&geocode=FZqmBAIdiiH4-A%3B%3BFVQVCgIdSmn0-A%3BFXw-DAIdOLz5-A%3BFf7vCwIdHrL9-A%3BFaJLCwIdrBb--A%3BFbVpCQId8V_8-A%3BFZumBAIdTCL4-A&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=10&via=1,4,5,6&sll=34.064037,-117.442474&sspn=1.046631,2.114868&ie=UTF8&ll=33.985502,-117.739105&spn=1.0476,2.114868&z=10). I will try my darndest to pre-run it and take notes for the day of.
C is where we had to turn around last time. It is now supposedly open all the way through. Unfortunately, that little connector right there to the 39 isn't open because that'd be bad ass. Still, the total run is about the same as last time in length (slightly longer) with no back tracking.
Note: I map the 605 - 210 instead of 5 up to the 2 for two reasons. One) There is a lot of traffic going up through LA on the 5 so it's not much faster even though it's shorter. Two) it's much more motorcycle friendly because it doesn't have those crazy interchanges and nutty LA traffic.

Seems like you're expecting a bunch of bikes with your posts....?
The 2 groups would be a good idea.. but i think it will happen naturally. I guarantee one group will be a good 10mins + ahead of the last person when we stop up off the 210

Not expecting so much, just making room. last year we had three. They obviously move at a totally different rate through the mountains. I did have to push to even sort of keep up. See film.
Carlos is right though. If you keep near the speed limit through the mountains, you're moving pretty good actually. A decreasing radius off-camber ascending curve is plenty fun at or (well below) the speed limit.

The fact that you were following and the fact that they were bikes means they are slow.:(. I admit that they can make it around the traffic faster, but that is it:judge:.

Alright everyone, this meet and cruise is THIS SATURDAY!
One of the guys from the Mazdaspeed3 forums (thanks Design!!) ran it yesterday and this is what he had to say:
"Just ran Angeles Crest today from Pasadena to Wrightwood. Majority of the road has been repaved and almost no debris. Should be a great trip for those considering it."
I also just checked the weather and it's supposed to be 76 degrees and sunny :)
If anyone has any questions shoot me a PM, email me (SeanPlunk@gmail.com), or give me a call at 714-322-2324. I'll see you all there!

The MM's are a good choice. I went with the Kenny Brown matrix. They are great SFC's, they have a jacking rail built into them. Very easy to just slide your jack under, no worries about crushing anything....:D

Route Simplification
We'll have directions to hand out, but I've gone through the route and made some simplifications to the back side. It's now super easy. Just take the 2 all the way to the 138 down to the 15 -> 60 -> 57 -> 91 to get back to Nicks instead of all the smaller unknown back mountain roads.

Yeah, what about your best friend, mmmm?
It's a (I think) 1998 "regular" 911. He just has it as an enjoyable weekend driver. He ain't got the scrilla for a serious addiction.
Dude, fortunately I have some discipline and am trying to put my money to work so I can play serious later in life, but the idea of a C6Z around $50k . . . well, it makes me kinda tingly. But a C6Z doesn't exactly have the sleeper vibe my poor lil' ole C3 has. :smack:

Don't be hating on Porsche. They bad. My uncle who had a C5 ZO6 then a 911 (one of AWD models) and various other objects of play said something like this: Keep in mind, he's about as dyed in the wool red blooded American as it gets.
The Vette would flat destroy the Porsche for raw speed. But where am I going to get anywhere near that potential on the streets? The Porsche is a joy to drive anywhere anytime.
Except for a piece of crap 914 (which I had a ball in) I've never driven a porsche. I've only driven a couple of Vettes, so I'm not really qualified to say, but I get the idea. There's definitely a lot more to cars and driving pleasure (uh oh) than raw objective performance unless you're just racing.

Oh heck no wer're not even in the same league. I saw TPI TERROR's car at the La Invasion and it looked pretty potent.
Mines only an 89 RS with a TBI (for now) and bad paint :o. I put the money into rebuilding the steering and building the suspension first. I wanted something that handled like it was on rails and that I could possible autox if I wanted. The few goodies I have are not really power adders: 4th gen seats, LS1 alum drive shaft, open element air cleaner.....stuff like that.

Thanks Alexis. We just kept asking Mya how her tummy felt every few minutes to make sure she was doing okay. At least my interior's still clean.
Who was the guy with the black Cobra with the Whipple? He needs to take it easier on his engine while he's setting the rings. That thing blows oil past the rings horribly. I can't believe he already ran it hard on a dyno. It took 800 miles for the rings to set on my Cobra and it never saw boost until after that. I now have over 70,000 miles on it.

He didnt get too far away from me. we were flyin. The Turns came so fast, it was a great rush once we started getting going. At first I was thinking we really are "cruising" the rest. But then we started really letting loose! And things became really crazy, Behind me was the white corvette, I honestly did not think he would hang with me as good as he did. So the GTO finally sped up? w00t. I was in the Firebird passed that black GTO. We were going 0-5MPH under the speed limit and the front group had pulled away several minutes before, and I had an Evo X and a Corvette behind me. Once I passed I pretty much went all out (but while staying in my lane... just in case). Pretty soon I caught up to the lead pack with Adam and Sean (C55 AMG) for some good times.

You could honestly go WAY faster there. I think that last year might have been faster. This year there were a lot of cyclist and the conditions were not great. I also felt ther was a lot more debris on the road this year so I took it easier. I had a great time. Thanks for taking the initiative to put this cruise together. :drink:

There was definitely more stuff on the road up to the top, but was pretty clean coming down on the new asphalt. As for speed, you can always get more speed with familiarity, but one thing I noticed in editing this video and other of your track days is just how solid an stable your Vette is; now more than ever. Perhaps it's a combination of training, experience and your new setup.
I could get more with better training/skill of course but I was in some cases approaching the limits of my 255 street tires. They were saying, "mmm, sure you wanna do that?" :smack: Video is funny, you really don't get an appreciation of how fast this is, probably because you don't have the forces working on you. I'd say we were doing at least 60 sometimes. :)

Well I could tell you that if did that exact same cruise in Mexico we would have hit 115. The new asphalt section would have been steadily above 70 mph. Those federales don't watch their roads like the LAPD.

Thank you sir. I was telling Alexis on the way home that if we have a girl I would love it if she ended up like yours.
Thank you. Judging the way you are around my kids I can tell you'll be a great dad. I think my girls are so well behaved because Amy and I taught them to be. We are always polite and that's the way my girls are. Just remember they need lots of love and affection but I can't see that as being a problem for you guys.

kdracer, it's a good reminder. I should make a thread in the site issues for how to easily manipulate photos.
SoCalC55,
PhotoBucket is great, I use it for pictures of non-auto stuff all the time. But it has two problems: 1 - doesn't add any special sauce to the site (booh) 2 - PhotoBucket is blocket by many corporate firewalls so the images simply won't render in the post.

kdracer, what kind of camera were you using and how was it mounted?
my little Sony cyber-shot dsc-s750 pocket cam. Mounted on my dash. I made a little block of wood with some angle brackets. fits snug agaist glass and dash....Very white trash .

The duet is the second best thing that we have on video on the site. The first being a near fatal crash at the track!!:thumbs_up:

Almost crash, he pulled it out. One of my favs is still Phil's assualt on the hill in Silverwood. That was one of those "do we know where all the kids are" moments.

Very nice! haha definitely white-trashy... I was thinking about finding a long bolt with the threading of a tripod and putting it up through the dash on the mustang... for races and cruises and such.

Worthy or entertaining? We could make some entertaining videos of it as it sits now. With the tires it has on there it feels really loose in the backend on corners. You could drift that thing through every corner if you wanted to. Although with your track record on pitching cars and trucks slideways you may want to practice in a open parking lot. :rolling:

bbut the Explorer was not going slideways... it's way to heavy to even think about getting it slideways :smack:
