I've been wanting a plasma cutter for a wile now. My buddys work let him barrow a really nice one for the week end. And that sealed the deal I need a plasma cutter.
Well I have a few choices wait even longer and spend 1200 on a used mid range plasma cutter or buy a cheap 300 unit from ebay and replace it when it breaks.
Its hard for me to spend that kind of money on a tool I might use once a month.
What do you guys think?

I say buy the cheap one and see how it works. If you don't like how it works just sell it and then save up for a better one.

I love feeling dirty.
Plus the feeling when he agrees is even better.

Couple things.
1. If you put obo, there is no such thing is lowballing. My best offer might be different then the sellers.
2. If the price says firm on CL it really means its obo they just dont know how to deal with people who offer less.
3. It's not lowballing if they say yes.

worst case he says no and you agree on 700.

Or give Guy $550 and he will get him down to $450 and make a hundred.

You're absolutely correct. But most people call offering <=50% of the asking price low-balling as a matter of language.
I'm looking for land and when I find one some with the right parameters and lagnuage in the offer, I'll be offering 50% or so. I know piece I was really interested was asking $20k (5 acres in apple valley, not even way out in the sticks or anything), but it was a little out of my range for what I was looking for. I watched and it sold for $10k. :suicide:

If you dont ask the answer is already no.

Meh, people make up these "rules" for certain things. I'm already and asshole, so what do I care if it's in one more place because I "comprehend" things different, just makes me an asshole with a smaller bottom line :)

It's usually big dollar stuff, like real estate, but this is called a buying agent and it's for realz.
