I'll use this thread to chronicle the resurrection of my 68. Here's how she sits today. This is a crappy cellphone pic, but my painter promised to get me some better pics tonight.

If the market were better I'd seriously considering switching from the old Vette to doing a "resto-rod" on an old Mustang like this. the GT-350 in particular remains one of my all time favorite cars, so something that design direction, with Coyote, etc.

They are cool cars they just are missing something for me to really lust after them.

Are you just going to restore it or mod it as well?

I can't ever leave one of my cars stock. I always modify them.

Plans are a 347 stroker with Holley 174 blower and AOD transmission. The front has coilovers. It has subframe connectors, under rider traction bars, limited slip diff w/4.10 gears. I might put rack and pinion steering in it. I still haven't decided. I have big sway bars for front and rear.

What do you like about that 174 so much? It's cool, but not so effecient compared to modern designs. Or do you just love the look and the extra lope that comes that setup?

I like the look and it makes more than enough power with that engine. For the money I paid, you can't beat it. I don't know what you mean about extra lope. I didn't really have that. It was actually pretty tame.

The lobes are big an paralel AIR causing more variation in intake pressure than with a screw/twisted lobes. I'm not positive, I'd just guess it would have more variation in pressure.

Its still going to depend on the cam. If the cam is mild, the blower will sound so as well.

Nice, i'm sure it happened to quickly to shut off the ignition.

Embarassingly enough, I didn't even think about it. I was entering our parking lot and there is a slight dip there, so I braked almost to a stop. Then when I tried to accelerate, the pedal wouldn't move so I pushed a little harder. Something was obviously obstructing it. When it broke loose from the obstruction, it went to the floor and stuck there. I tried to pull the pedal back with my toe and when I looked up, I saw I was heading over the loading dock wall.

When my wife came to the hospital and I told her what happened, she immediately asked me the same question you did. I promptly answered the same way I'm going to answer anyone else that asks this question.

Good luck! When making heads and cam selection, always pick a size up from what you're thinking.

Good luck! When making heads and cam selection, always pick a size up from what you're thinking.

I already have a built 347. It has aluminum Dart Pro1 heads (2.02/1.60 valves, 195cc runners). The cam it currently has is a hydraulic roller with 222/232 degree duration @ .050, 510/534 lift, and 114 LSA. Comp Cams recommended Comp Cams part #35-775-8 with 236/248 duration @.050, 579 lift, and 114 LSA. I may switch to that cam. I haven't decided yet.

Remember this will be a roots blown motor.

I'm putting in a Dart based 363, with the Holley 174 blower. I'll probably back it up with a Lentech AOD.

Our 306/331/347 Race 8 Second Dart Short Block is designed for 800hp-1000hp vehicles looking for a strong foundation for high horsepower. This short block is balanced to 28oz and ready for your big horsepower street or race car. The extra strength of this setup relies upon a 4340 forged steel crankshaft and set of 4340 forged steel H beam rods along with the Dart SHP 4 bolt main 302 block. This is the premium 4 bolt iron block available for 302 based motors and can handle upwards of 1200hp. For lighter rotating assembly parts we also have high strength 4340 I beam rods, and Ultra light 4340 I beam rods for quick and high revving naturally aspirated engines.

As does every other s197 owner, honestly i'd like to have a set of magnaflow's or bassani's But I want this car to be quiet and comfortable. It's plenty loud for a "inconspicuous" DD. Dumps on foxes are dronetastic so I want to eliminate that.

Thanks, Ron. Can't paint the hood yet until I put the engine in and figure out where I have to cut the hole for this.

Should be getting the car back from the painter real soon. In the meantime I had a grill made for the car. No one makes a correct grill with the fog light brackets for the 68 GT/CS. So a guy I know used a 67 grille, some original fog light brackets from an unsalvageable original grill, used the correct tinner's rivets and built me a nice grill. He did some beautiful work.

My car is on its way home! It still needs a lot of work but at least it's out of paint shop hell.

Funny story (or maybe not so funny), when I drove into the office today there was a car that drove over the curb and into the loading dock. Not quite like I did but it was high centered on the curb with the front wheels hanging over the wall. The old guy had dementia and didn't even know his name.

It's buffed. The paint is really shiny. May not show up well in the pics.

Sad panda face. Being elderly for most people is no goddamn fun at all. I'm very grateful my dad (86) despite being blind and getting weak, is chipper, happy, and still alert. His memory is scary accurate and detailed. When I visit some times to his assisted living facility, I look around and shudder.

3 days after I got the car home, my dad died. So I haven't touched it until today. Today I tore out the seats, the carpet, the upper console, sun visors, and headliner. Next, I'll install the new headliner so I can install the windshield and back glass. Anyone have any tips for me? Never done a headliner before.

Also, I couldn't resist putting something on the car so I put on the scripts on one side. I have officially begun the restoration!

I can't remember, is the headliner wire backed, or a board?

It's got 4 bows, then it's glued on the edges.

I can offer up no advice on the headliner but I can relay my condolences on your father's passing.
