This replaces the May 13 Nick's meet. Unless several of you want to do a Nick's meet (which would have to be the 19th for me), there will be no Nicks's in May.

Here's (http://motorgen.com/vid/showgallery.php/cat/523) the video album from the last time we went out.

I'll lead. I talked to Phil (Throttle Crazy) yesterday about it but he'll be working so he won't make it. I have a buddy who wants to come though as long as he's not working. I'm also going to talk to my other buddy Ron who came with us last time to see if he and his brother want to go.

I'd like Nicks, being I wont be able to offroad :(

What is exactly the plan? Like what time are we leaving and returning or are you guys camping and what is the route?

Vettezuki

Basically meet in the morning near Ron's house in Fontana. Roll out to Silverwood trail JN17X. Dominate said trail over the better part of the day. Return in the afternoon.

As long as you think we will be back around 7:00 PM I think I can go...

Last time we met near a Starbucks near my house which is on the way to the trail. The map is below. What time do you guys want to meet? If we meet at around 10:00 AM I would guess that we should be done and back by around 2:00 PM.

Starbucks:

Yes it is.

I'm in for sure. I have one friend with a 93 4runner that is coming as well. And one more with a Jeep that might be coming as well.

Is this do-able for a locked 2wd sport trac? only torsion twist on the front and 31's.

94cobra69ss396
05-09-2012, 03:00 PM
Nope, it wouldn't even make it up the first hill. Four wheel drive with low range is a must.

blackax
05-09-2012, 03:06 PM
i'm always shocked what I can do in 2wd. But low gear is always a nice thing.

Watch this video from when we did it last time. The rain over the past couple of years has washed some of the dirt out at the bottom of that rock wall you first climb up so it's higher and steeper now than it was in the video. If you want to give it a try I'll be more than happy to tow you up the parts you can't make it up. There are two other sections that I don't think you would be able to make and the last hill climb will be the worst.

Do you think I will be able to do this in my truck?

If i cant get mozes fixed by then i'm gonna take my 93 trooper. mostly stock except for 33's

What size tires do you have on it right now? and do you have a low range?

Chuck
05-09-2012, 05:33 PM
It has 32" bfg AT and it has a 4 low but stock suspension except bilstein shocks for the ride.

05-09-2012, 05:43 PM
You have way more power then my truck so you should be fine. But get the final word from Ron.

Chuck
05-09-2012, 06:00 PM
It's not power I am concerned about its ground clearance but yeah it should be fine.

Vettezuki
05-09-2012, 06:30 PM
You can bring a quad for the trail if you wanted. I guess you can park at the trail head?? Though you are setup for sand really.

I will go ahead and sit this one out then. I will be up at crab flats the 19-20th anyway and I just stayed there last weekend as well so I guess I could stay home for a weekend and save some gas money and wear and tear on my truck.

You'll be fine. That first hill is the only one I can think of where ground clearance is a concern and we can get you around that. The other tuogh section has a bypass to go around. The only spot I think you are going to have a tough time with is the last hill and that's only because of the rutts. Do you have a limited slip?

This trail used to not be full size friendly back about 10-15 years ago. There were a couple of tight spots and one of the tight spots had a big step that your truck would have high centered on. However, there have been a lot of H1 Hummers though it and they widened it and the step is now longer there. Phil used to have some pictures from about 14 or 15 years ago when we went with our club through it in his K5 Blazer. One of those pictures is of me standing in front of it with the front tire about 4 feet off the ground when he was going up the tight section with the step. Now that section is easy enough that you could do it in 2 wheel drive.

Not a minute earlier. :) At least one of you will need an open seat as I think I'm going to just focus on camera stuff. I'd like to take the Jeep but the clutch really needs to be replaced as it chatters quite a bit.

i should have a seat open.

Let's meet in the parking lot next to the Starbucks at 15244 Summit Ave, Fontana like we did last time. Then if anyone is going to be leaving their car we'll head to my house so they can leave it there.

You're welcome and you did great. Hopefully Ben got a close up of you when you were descending the hill before the the last big hill climb. You looked a little nervous.

@ chuck next time to keep up a little more speed and it will make your life much more simple.

It was very tight for a full size truck.

It was very tight for a full size truck.

What are you talking about, there was plenty of room. :rolling: I did say it would be tight in a couple spots but that I could get him through which I did. I even did it without any body damage. Luckily he followed my directions when I was guiding him through that one tight spot even though I told him to steer closer to the wall that looked like it was going to take the side of his truck off. See, sometimes what sounds crazy is just the right thing to do.

You mean the one where I did the exact opposite of what you told him to do? lol

94cobra69ss396
05-26-2012, 10:39 PM
That's the one. I even pointed that out because if that had been his truck his passenger side would have been up against the wall. You and I don't have that issue because our tires stick out past the bodies.

Would SO rather have done this today, i've driven 815 miles today :(

Vettezuki
05-26-2012, 11:44 PM
For being Chuck's first serious off road experience, not just farting around in sand dunes or light fire trails, he did great. About my only observation is that he has a tendency to lift the gas and lose momentum when keeping it down steady makes a big difference. He probably could/should have done in it 4H not 4L. That engine makes so much torque and being an automatic it would have been a lot smoother.

And thanks John for letting me drive the Trooper. Quite similar to my Wrangler in basic feel and a lot of fun.

Yes he did very well for being his first time and being in such a large truck (I love full size trucks)

Its easy to drive once you get over the little things. lol
