My first truck was a 89 f150, and I loved that truck. Now that I have no truck these trucks are going in the $900-$1500 range if you look hard enough. They are incredibly tough trucks that are dirt cheap to fix and will fit my most basic needs of a truck until i can save for another superduty. Here are the candidates, who wants to buy me one :D

I go the "one buck truck" from my grandpa if I could get it off the lot. It was just the starter and a battery. Tidying up loose ends and I got a GMC Sierra 1500 for around $1,500.

The nice thing about these truck is they are electrically identical to the mustangs, having owned one before there is only a handful of items that cause a no crank/no start. I could have it running the day i got it back most likely. And its nice the truck is Maf already, so this other 306 i grabbed will go in nicely and give it a nice bump in power and mileage. All while costing a third to insure compared to the 08.

Well done. The interior looks like it'll clean up fine too.

Yup, few hours of shampoo and it should look near new again. Its basically the same interior layout in my truck now.

It would have been really funny if this thread was about installing a roots blower.

I take it that the "kaboom" was too expensive to fix?

At least 2k in parts for the "best case" breakage scenario plus the needed special tools and various other 1k in crap that goes with it
5k-8k for the scenario its most likely going to be...

Trans or engine?
Shaolin Crane

Engine. Whats most difficult is all engine works requires the cab to come off, so i need to install a lift first, then save for the parts, then fix. Which will take a while, so im getting a temporary (or perminant backup) until its fixed or it sells and i can buy another 99-03 super duty with a 7.3l. Unfortunatelt prices on those have jumped recently so it will be about a year before i can afford another one. Untill then i'll continue to finish the cars just in case something else bad happens. No need to put everything i have on hold.

How the hell did you break a diesel??

Apparently ford used 18ga stamped steel with a plastic hold down bar to mount the rocker to the head. Bullshit design, so i'm having some billet roller ones designed.

Fuckin Ford, I've been giving them a little bit more credit as time has gone on, guess it's underserved.

I kinda felt the same way but Its not Fords engine, its internationals and its the reason they scrapped the 6.4 and ford designed the 6.7, and after talking to techs its a pretty bulletproof engine. Although it cant touch anywhere near the power of the 6.4

Neither will happen in the new truck. I'd spend more doing the swap then i will upgrading the weak points of the 6.4l. And in the end the 6.4 will make nearly 3x the power.

Wow, surprised International would do something like that.

I guess Ford has been pretty upset with international ever since the 6.0l the 6.4 didnt help things so they finally ceased all operations with international and designed their own engine in house. Who know how that one will last but the heads look nearly indentical on the 6.4 but the 6.7 has a compound turbo with a common shaft instead of a true twin setup.
