Just got back from the L.A. Auto show. Went to go see the Boss 302 first (little lady loves that car) and wondered aloud "why would you choose a GT500 over this car?"

Then I went and looked at the GT500.

Aluminum block 5.8, TVS2300 blower, 15 psi. Carbon Fiber Driveshaft, Boss suspension essentially, 15 inch (!) Brembos, 650hp/600tq. THE most powerful regular production V8 in the world, and some bitchin quad exhaust tips! Its also a good bit lighter than the old GT500s.

This thing will just slaughter any camaro at anything (c'mon camaro guys, you can admit it, its okay.), beat a Z06 in a straight line, and surprise a lot of people in the twisties. My newest car on the "own before I die" list.

I think I'd prefer the BOSS as a better all arounder.

Me too, i thought it was funny they kept talking about the new shelby at 550hp not 650hp. Dude was a douche bag IMO

the one on the dyno was a 2012. not a 2013. so it WAS 550hp. :D

Forgot to add, it now has launch control (Yes!) electronically adjustable bilsteins (from the cockpit) and a torsen rear diff. This thing is going to be a monster. I lusted after the boss more than any car in recent memory, but even I have a hard time seeing how its going to be better...It may corner just a bit better, but id hazard a guess that the shelby will be faster around most any track.

Im hoping it was a douchey error and he was just reading queue cards... I think, if I am interpreting it correctly, that it has a different ratio lsd...

I totally agree. People always talk about live axle and such but would most people even get the use out of a Boss. I say no. So just buy the Shelby and enjoy the hell out of a 650hp monster on the street because that is the only place you are going to drive it anyway.

On a side note... I will take the front of a '11 with the rear of a '12 please.

I am not saying guys like us. I am referring to the normal Joe who buy it it to be cool. Lets face it... that is most of who buys that stuff. IMHO.

That's for sure. Less than 1% of Corvette drivers drive that platform for what it was designed. So the rest is just a question of where economics, engineering and marketing all fall together. From an engineering POV, the modern live axle setup Ford has is stunning (ended up costing them more than had they gone with the originally planned IRS, but I digress), but likewise, for optimal handling on track conditions, it can never be the same as an IRS.

The one positive thing about a SRA is the decreased likelihood of axle hop. The old man has a STS-V and that thing hops like a mother if you get on it hard from a stop. My Mustang did some axle hopping when stock, but after upgrading the LCA's it hasn't done it since. In fact, I can leave a stop as hard as I want and it will either bite or burn 'em depending on the road surface, temp, etc...

I don't have much first hand experience w/ IRS sports cars and axle hop other than my dads V, so I certainly could be wrong here. However, it seems like many CTS-V owners, vette owners, and 03-04 Cobra owners complain a lot about the axle hop issue.

...but likewise, for optimal handling on street conditions, it can never be the same as an IRS.

Fixed. Its been proven time and again on a prepped track the 3 link performs every bit as well as an IRS. The IRS gets the obvious advantage on unprepped streets.

I was just about say that Guy, then I saw your post. Fwiw, I love stock IRS and have driven many IRS cars, but have not driven any with 3 link so all my info is second hand.

I'm missing HP, 2010 shelgy gt500 5.4L engine, with upgraded 2.3L TVS supercharger produces 660HP @15 poundes of boost, 2013 has 5.8L engine with 2.3L TVS supercharger and only produces 650HP @15 poundes of boost, so where is the extra HP 400cc should produce, guess the car is detuned???

Without looking at it more closely, the difference is simply that what comes from Ford as the manufacturer has to meet warranty/durability requirements. That flies out the window as soon as you modify your own car, so you can push harder with more risk and less durability.
