For a guy that doesn't smoke/drink or carouse, he's not exactly "all over it" sometimes. I think he's a closet hippy. :hippy: If he doesn't get on it by next week, I will.
FordFreak, do you have a sweat shop, I mean shirt printer in mind?

I've actually talked to a couple of shirt guys. I do have a general idea of cost, which is why is hasn't happened yet. Doing a small run is obviously more expensive (per shirt/relative) than a larger. Ideally, it would be nice to do 100 or so. That's quite expensive though as you might imagine.

How much per unit at what lot sizes? What quality (material grades) are we talking about? Do you any of the vendors offer pilot runs for testing?

The quality can be wildly different. Anything from no name shirts to Hanes Beefy T's. No pilot runs from the two guys I talked to (although, I haven't really shopped around looking for that). For simple shirts, as low as maybe $15 per shirt. It depends on how many colors, front and back printing, etc. It can go up a lot depending on what you do.

That's way expensive. Time to talk to the Vietnamese. :) I might have one contact.

One of my wrestling coaches I've known for years works at a shop that does T-Shirts. He's a great guy and has given me a great deal in the past. I don't remember what exactly it came out to though.
How many colors/layers will it be? That's the important thing. If it's just white on a black shirt (like the sticker for example) it'll be really cheap. I'll call him in a few mins when I'm out of class.
He uses Haynes "Beefy Tees" and the silk screen is high quality.

Use the logo in the upper left as a reference. I don't know how many colors he'd qualify that as. Thanks for checking on this.

It would be cool if we all wore them on track days, like a bunch of star trek geeks. It would spark some curiosity amongst the crowd.

I not have people in mind, but we get all out stuff here from China and I know that the owner has a guy I can get bigger runs from (maybe even some smaller ones). As far as putting up some concepts here...oh... not yet. All I need is some marching orders and a high rez image of the firing helix pistons and I can bang out one BW concept that I have so we can be cost effective for now. :D I used the same argument with Sean about having some basic shirts we wore at track days and he is scared of becoming too commercial.

Yep. Kinda gay, but yes ;) And with the bumper stickers FordFreak made, it would be like a branding blitzkrieg. An 11 second C3 Corvette would spark some interest in the crowd too. . .

Alright, I just got off the phone with my friend Kyle.
For a single color on the front with a small logo on the chest pocket area and a full size, full color (5-6 color levels) logo across the back it would cost about $10 for black and $8 for white. Black is more work and they have to lay down a white layer first so the colors show up. The quote was for 100 Haynes Beefy Tees in an assortment of sizes.
He said if I sent over an image he could give me an exact quote. Send me a high-res rendering of the logo and I'll clean it up so it's tshirt friendly and email it to him.

He does not want people to thing we are there to sell stuff and promote like a out of touch with the roots of the company corporation. I think that is how he looks at it.

Ahhhhhhh, I was thinking he was thinking it would make it too commercial by having too many visitors to the site and i was rather confused by that.

That sounds considerably more reasonable. We're now looking at 8 bills for 100 beefy T solid white with small color on front and large logo on back.

There is only one goal to promotion . . . get people to the site. Swag is a ubiquitous and reasonably effective method. How many Summit hats, T-Shirts, and stickers do you see; and they are about nothing but selling (good for them.)
We're about people. (Now I sound like a Hippy.) Once we get people to the site, they can explore on their own and decide if its worth their time or not. It's the American way.
When I see a site or club t-shirt and it seems reasonably interesting, I'll check it out. About the only way it's a bad idea is if a person who was going to come see the site, decides NOT to because he sees a shirt, which is rather hard for me to imagine.
Thoughts?

I agree with you Ben. We are going to the track and taping so that people will come to the site. We hand them cards. What is the difference in handing them cards or them seeing us taping and seeing the logo on the shirt. I personally think it makes us approaching them seem more legit anyway. As long as we are not the biggest idiot at the track then people might come if they see the logo on the shirt. By wearing the shirts more people will be exposed to the site than may have been. I see the shirts as a good thing. Do you guys need to make about 100 of them? When I was pitching this idea to Sean I was thinking more of enough shirts for people closer to the site. Not just handing them out to people for the hell of it.

Yeah I agree with you 100%, you can't be responsible of the conduct of random people who would be associated with the site if they were to be handed out.

Regardless, any good printing company is going to require 100 shirt minimum. It's too expensive to make the screens for any less. I mean sure you could have them make less shirts... they'll just charge for expenses. You may as well get the extra shirts out of it.

Makes sense. Do they keep the screens on "file" for future printing? Are there lower future costs because there's no setup?

Alexis just brought up a point I had not thought of. Hot girls in wet T-shirts do attract a lot of attention. I would even argue more than a fast car. We may need Mike's and Brian's help on supplying the girls. :creepy_thumbsup:
GreyStroker

...........Brian could supply the "women" but I feel really uneasy around girls who look like Hannah Montana, or there abouts age wise; especially in transparent shirts. I feel like I need a rape shower after seeing that!!!!
But, as far as the whole concept of the shirts: There are positive and negatives to any type of promotion. But if one of the main goals of this website is to promote use of the resources found within, you must get the name out in the marketplace. If you only give/sell the shirts to those part of the website, i.e. events promotions, track days, photo opp's, or any other public event being covered by the website, the cost will be worth it. (Brian only gets one if he shaves and gets a hair cut before going out in public with the shirt on). White is good for hot days, but only if the people wearing them can maintain the white color, as to not look like slobs. Black would be nice for night events or inside events.
Food for thought....

Money....too much and we would have to buy in bulk to make the price reasonable and not enough backs to put them on yet. :) All in due time sir....we have stickers though. They're rock'n! Next time at the track we'll bring you one:
Red
White
Blue
Yellow?
Which color?

Actually, money ain't such a problem. Adam can get them from China for like $2 a piece with basically no minimum runs. All we really need is the vector graphic from Chi, but he's been busy with other site issues.
