Not in any super particularl order because they are different types. Though probably the one that is just an experience is the Haven Burger at Haven Gastropub in the Orange Circle. Mmm, 30% prok fat and some seriously Gucci blue cheese sends it over the top.

So
Haven (http://havengastropub.com/) Burger
The Counter (http://www.thecounterburger.com/)
Five Guys (http://www.fiveguys.com/home.aspx)
IN N OUT (http://www.in-n-out.com/) A Cali Classic

For chains:
Wendy's is the best large chain burger for me. Never did like Burger King or Mickey Ds that much.
Especially recently, believe it or not, the Denny's burger ain't bad at all.

You need to try Slater's 50/50

The 50/50 is the reference to a patty they have which is 50% Bacon and 50% Beef.
They also weigh the meat they cook afterwards so you get the full 1/3, 1/2 or Full pound burger.

You can also top it with anything from Sardines to Peanut butter.

They have just about everything and it's all tasty:
Sweet potatoes fries, Vampire dip(extreme garlic goodness) and even Bacon Martinis.

Future cruises may need to be based around burger joints in SoCal. I'm serious about a good burger.

I used to drive up I5 then take CA58 to PCH then south to eat at the Habit before they came down here.

Gburger would have been a great stop for a Turnbull run, but unfortunately there's no parking anywhere near the restaurant to accommodate us.

The Golden Ox on this side, in Uptown. Rick's has slipped lately.

Turnbull run? That has to be incredibly dull...

Some people dig it. Easy, close and short, in a group can be fun. Of course if you live near the thing and have run it 1,000x I could understand a different perspective.

Been there a couple times. Certainly good, especially for price, but not at the level of say The Counter. Service is very fast a courteous at CH Habit.

Holy Hell, How'd I forget.

Knowlwoods! Haven't been in a while, but they have been great in the past.

Knowlwoods is good! I have one like half a mile from me and keep meaning to go but never do. I have been once in the past year I have lived here but it was good.

Also there is Fudds always a good choice for a burger.

The best thing about Fudds are the options for different meats, Buffalo, Ostrich, Elk, etc.

I think I pretty much agree to some extent with all the places brought up so far. The one place that I have tried that I want to love but just haven't had a really great burger at so far is Deemers in Lagun Niguel. The fries and onion rings are great but the burgers always seem good but not great. For example, I had the buffalo burger that had Franks style hot sauce and blue cheese like buffalo wings. The blue cheese overpowered any other flavor on the burger. I've also had the B&B, Caliente, California and Napa burgers there. The sides and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale in tap are great but I just gotta find that great burger to go with it. I'll probably try the Shroom next.

One place that hasn't been mentioned yet that I do like is A's burgers.

edit: spelling. Probably still missed some.

I'll eat anywhere there is a 'B' in the window...

And some of the best food I've ever eaten had a 'C'.

Speaking of Sierra Nevada, go to the brewery in Chico, CA. Now that's a good burger, they feed the cows the same hops and grains they use for the beer their entire life.

I'm nearly tearing up just thinking about it.

We don't have one here, but The Heart Attack Grille looks like a hoot.

Nice burgers.
