We can call it the local re-route...

The rough part is the beginning, you can meet at the 10 and Mountain where you find some facilities friendly to the crowd but as you go up from there it gets all residential.

Mountain Ave runs up to Mt. Baldy Village, just before that is the turn off for Glendora Ridge Route on the left, run that on over to 'the fork in the road' at GMR and go right to East Fork Road and then on to 39 and up to Crystal Lake. If you travel the extra 200 yards past the entrance to Crystal Lake, the road ends in a large open space good for a few dozen cars. Pics and chatter and then back down 39 either into Azusa for some grub somewhere all can agree on

-OR-

Back down 39 and back over East Fork, back up GMR to 'the fork in the road' and over the front side into Glendora and down to Rt. 66 and The Hat.

I did the run last time and got stranded thanks to a POS radiator and upper radiator hose, does that count?

I'll try and get the other transmission installed in the car this weekend to make it, but no promises. I have a lot of other shit to do this weekend.

Trying to map this for the threads:

Mountain Ave to Baldy Village, hang a left on Glendora Ridge Route to Glendora Mountain Rd. Do the back side to East Fork and then over to Azusa/39 and up to Crystal Lake, terrorize a campground for awhile and eat six dollar cheeseburgers there or head back down 39 to this little BBQ joint on San Gabriel I been really wanting to try out however they have street parking and a small lot in back of the place in what is primarily a residential 'hood. Reviews are pretty good but I'm understanding it may take a while to get fed. There's always In-N-Out just past the freeway too. Or, head back down 39, back over East Fork, back up the back side of GMR and over the front side and supper at The Hat on 66 in Glendora maybe...

Some of the places aren't coming up though...

Awesome. We'll roll with that then. Also, I should have some extra money this month so I'm going to hit you up about fixing my AC. It's so hot right now, it would be great to have it working. Hectic, we're getting ready to take the 356c in for blasting, so during the week the blaster has it i'll have time, not alot as i'll need to work on both the 88 and the 87. But ac isnt something anyone should be without right now, plus i could always use more spending money :)

I ended this one at Maria's. Personally, I'll drive down the block for grub at The Hat but it does sound okay, looking at the reviews though, it's 'old Mexican food' for Gabachos and I prefer real Mexican food.

Guaranteed you'll like it. My girlfriend is mexican and thats the only place she'll eat at. And fast food sucks dick.

EDIT I just read the few bad reviews from the people on yelp and those people are fucking high as a kite. All 3 of the bad reviews stated that it was expensive and had a long wait, which isnt further from the truth. When i got with the lady (weekly) it comes out to about $6 a person, which for a sit down, salsa and chips included is dirt cheap for better food than carmens or la toleteca.

Best part of the cow is the part lookin' back at ya.

I used to live next door to a bunch of coyotes, man they were some of the best neighbors I ever had. Clean, quiet and very respectful. Their children were always polite and well mannered and four or five times a year they would dig a big ass hole in the back yard, for three days they would heat big river stones on an open fire then they would take a big fuckin' pig and wrap it in banana leaves, line the bottom of the pit with stones and more leaves, toss the pig in and cover with more leaves and stones and then bury the whole damned mess for 48 hours. Man those were some of the best meals I have ever had in my entire life.

Went back down into the old 'hood a few weeks back, fences out to the street and I doubt any of the neighbors actually know each other.

Shame.

You have to watch it on Yelp. Only take it seriously if there's a bunch of different people and times saying the same kinds of things.

Here in Anaheim we have Mexicasa. I don't think the owner has left the building since 92' because their combo plates are still like $3.75.

Seriously. I'm sure many of those reviews come from them being irritated or pissed off at something that may have happened on the way there. Just like the negative reviews at the Cosmopolitan.

If you follow the link on the OP it does show the route HOWEVER, when Opie popped his map skillz up on the screen he accidentally added a dozen or so miles going down 39 from East Fork to somewhere before the first dam and then back up to Crystal Lake and then back down 39 to Foothill.

Your revised distance is 68.5 miles +/- a mile or so...

The route is the one shown but for some reason you have us going left on 39 from East Fork and most of the way down the mountain and then making a U-turn and going back up to Crystal Lake (see marker F)

If this is your intention I am sorry, please carry on. I pay attention to the mileage listed as I don't like to run with a full tank, this is a short run so it doesn't really matter but I still look.

This is the run (http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=1923+North+Campus+Avenue,+Upland&daddr=North+Mountain+Avenue,+Upland,+CA+to:34.1781 92,-117.6767671+to:glendora+mountain+road+to:glendora+ mountain+rd+to:glendora+mountain+rd+east+fork+to:E +Fork+Rd+to:Crystal+Lake+Road,+CA+to:457+West+Foot hill+Boulevard,+Glendora&hl=en&sll=34.23877,-117.840729&sspn=0.219964,0.247192&geocode=FRTVCAIdWev8-CnXSqlE1TbDgDHJmnZKV1nArQ%3BFb7tCAIdcH78-CnB0i_66DDDgDE9oF2mgAi4LA%3BFZCECQIdIWX8-CmBX_otTzrDgDHjoXqgpBQ7yQ%3BFT3pCQIdU2H6-Cn_YmfSOSTDgDEjQUNYbREa9A%3BFT3pCQIdU2H6-Cn_YmfSOSTDgDEjQUNYbREa9A%3BFfJVCgIdM6j6-CG1hQ_xL-XezSlnrH1QmyPDgDFRkX-4lH2c6A%3BFZpyCgIdXLv5-A%3BFSVzCwIdp-b5-CntJskYTx_DgDGhNs9o1h_eBA%3BFdbfCAId_Wr5-CkZf1eXNibDgDHUfTrKEzDEeQ&mra=dme&mrsp=6&sz=12&via=2&t=h&z=12) with revised mileage, notice the bolded blue line on 39 is now a lot shorter since we are actually going to cover it once up and once down now. ;)

Boca del rio on arrow highway, not the best parking scenario.
P&G Super burgers, personally my and my lady's favorite burgers. AWESOME parking, similar to Nicks but quite a bit more.

Please see OP for final update. Changes to previous.

1. .The very first part was shortened to be the same as we've always done before, that is, going up N. Euclid.

2. We'll be ending at P &G Super Burger.

Well im out, my transmission took a shit after hitting something on the freeway last night. Poked a hole in the transmission and all the fluid drained out on the drive home, i'll be calling the insurance adjuster.

Well that sucks...

Small White Car may join you at a later time somewhere along the route as the axle job took a bit longer than I anticipated and now I am shower bound, perhaps I'll see you at Crystal Lake or somewhere along the way.

After about 10 minutes after we all left the half way stop I saw a blue miata pulled over by a Sheriff SUV and they mad dogged me hardcore, but I got away, actually pulled over took our GoPro's out so we wouldn't stand out further, haha.

My first thoughts of GMR = holy balls that shit was crazy, but so awesome (besides missing the left hand turn with a bunch of people) when are we doing it again? Haha.

Guy, wanna get banned? :smack:

Cops:
The Blue Miata got nailed, the driver was out of the car and the cop was in distinct "I'm gonna fuck you up son" mode. Maybe he can come on and tell the story . . . when he gets out of jail.

He got rolled hard and is known for going balls out on GMR. I think his car has a bunch of back registration as well. :inout:

I believe the main group went to a burger joint. The miata group decided to do GMR again and ate at Max's in Azusa which was some of the best Mexican I've had in a long time. In fact, it's right down the street from La Tolteca.

Completely different. It's a burger/diner, not Mexican. La Tolteca could accommodate a larger simultaneous crowd, that's for sure. If we had a big run and everyone went to eat at the same time, P & G would be overwhelmed. Great option for today though.

I'd like to try that BBQ joint some day.

I think Maria's was closed, had a great time, including the fun detour up Mt Baldy, thank you guys in the silver BMW, for stopping us before we tried to ski with the cars.
We should all thank the blue miata for keeping all of the police busy today:jester:

Mm, Max's? I like the parking and atmosphere at La Tolteca's, and the cheap tortillas to take home are great, but the food has become somewhat average in my opinion. The first time I went there, it was pretty decent, it seems, especially the beans and rice (kind of an important part of Mexican) has become lesser quality than it was. JMO.

Max's was great (especially the home made tortillas and salsa), but the restaurant is a wee bit small for a big 60-70 person group. It would work just fine for the group we had today, and there's a big public parking lot right across the street that was completely empty.

La tolteca and carmens suck monkey dick. Marias is far better but as i stated before, now closed on sundays. P&G has great burgers, i'd go more if the drive wasnt so long :judge:

I gotta save you from this illusion you have of Mexican food...

You step up to the window, order your food, pay the nice lady and wait until you hear your number. While you wait you trot on over to the salsa bar and grab some onion and cilantro, some salsa verde, some lemon and then find a spot on a bench to wait for your dinner to come out of the other window.

If there are tires and wheels under either of those windows, even better.

That is authentic Mexican food.

We'll do Boca del Rio on Vincent next time.

Max's wasn't bad but the only reason I would call it authentic Mexican is because an authentic Mexican made it, other than that it's just your standard sit down Mexican restaurant fare. Same enchilada plate and bean and cheese burritos they been serving since the seventies and quite frankly they are just a little to clean.

Actually I might have been a little less rough on the place, right up until the wait staff came out and sang Happy Birthday to that poor guy, that kills any atmosphere. Except maybe Shakey's or Farrell's.

Would it have been better if they broke out into "Estas son las mananitas, que cantaba el Rey David. Hoy por ser dia de tu santo, te las cantamos a ti"?
:sm_laughing:
I'm not saying it was authentic by any means, just tasted a lot better than the standard La Tolteca/El Cholo/etc.
