Carlos, have you ever used either the NITTO NT01 or the Toyo R888 or know anyone who has? Do you know how good either of these tire are? I'm looking at both of these and want some input if possible.

No and yes.
NT-01: I haven't run this tire because it's not produced in a 19" size. It is definately a good tire that has won SCCA and Nasa National championships. That's all I know.
Toyo R-888: I'm currently running these on the vette. Great grip and decent wear characteristics. Be carefull with you alignment. R compound tires are alot more sensative. Get a tire pyrometer. This is the most common tire used during most open track event. Porsche club of america used this tire for thier spec classes. This is the replacement for the old Toyo RA-1. It has a stiffer sidewall than the old RA-1. It's a great feature for heavier cars (i.e mustangs/ vettes), but the Miata/Boxer guys bitch. The R888s are sold at most tracks (price is gauged) and TD4L sells them cheap and some local vendors can score you a deal.
I also ran the Michelline Pilot Sport Cups and will not be running htem again.

The cost and wear of the CUPs far exceeded any performance benefit compared to other competition tires.
Also, even though they are OEM on many exotics; I felt I was slower in the sport cups.

Thanks Carlos. That's exactly what I wanted to hear that either tire would be good.
Now another question. Do you have any pointeer for Buttonwillow? I will be running there and would like any advice you could give me since I know you run that track a lot.

I think I have a quite a bit of video of Carlos running Buttonwillow. I only put up the bit with the Ferrari. I can render a couple laps with a window burn for time and Carlos can use that as reference for indicating what's where.

That would be great. I may also be able to get up there and run before the actual event. My brother did work on a guys car who manages the track and they were tlaking about my car. He told Phil to bring me and the car up and he would let us run the track for a day for free. Once the car is ready Phil's going to hit him up.

Post some laps and I'll put some notes. Also go to NASAproracing.com they have a forum for American Iron and american Iron extreme. I would search thier for some alignment settings. Bleed you brake fluid and slap some new pads on it. If you can spare the coin get some HP plus pads and some motul or ATE racing dot 3 fluid. THis is important because if your brakes start to fade then you will not have consistant braking points and you will not be able to run constant laps.
Next I would call whoever you are running with and find out what trrack configuration will be run. Buttonwillow has at least 13. They really only run four of them for street cars and they are clockwise or counterclockwise with or without the "star mazda" corner.
Regardless of the configuration I promise thier are videos on the net for you to watch. Thier are also track maps that talk you through the line available. Just remember RWD FWD or AWD all have different lines.
When you are at the track take the first session slow and concentrate on finding markers or fixed objects to mark your braking and turn-in points. There are plenty to choose from.
Buttonwillow is the tightest and most techinical track in Socal (Streets of willow was originally designed for superbikes and only gay ricers:thumbs_up: and gay-er drifters run it:thumbs_up:). So be patient and build speed over the course of the day.
When you familiarize yourself with the layout of the track call me and I will talk you through a lap corner by corner.:drink:
After your sessions park the car in gear with the E-Brake OFF( if they are on the rotors will cool unevenly and worp). Immediately check you tire pressure. Toyos and the Nittos like to run in the high 30's or low 40's. I would start them at 39 and play with them. They have wear indictors on the side that will indicate if you need nore or less pressure.

I'm already running Spectro Golden Supreme DOT 4 Synthetic brake fluid. It has a dry BP of 520°F and wet BP of 367°F. I added this when I ran at the big track at Willow Springs because I boiled the DOT 3 brake fluid in my second session. I’m also running Hawk HPS pads in the front and rear and didn’t have any issues with them fading.
I'm not sure I'll be able to find out what track confirgation it's going to be before the competition so if you can just give me some info on the videos Ben posts it would help. I just want to know things like where the Start/Finish is and what gear you were in during the corner. Also, what gear do you have in the rearend? On the day of the competition there will only be a 20 practice session and then the competition will be another 20 minute session where my fastest lap will be counted. I just want to be prepared.

The first of the videos is rendering. I remember why I didn't do more from this session. They MOV files using some obscure codec that takes FOREVER to conform. Never fear, it'll be up in a couple hours at the latest.

Well by that time I was pretty frustrated. These videos were from last November before I was running R compound tires. That civic ended up blowing it's motor and the blue 240 forced me off the track the next day.
It's agrevating to be stuck behind a slower car in TT where people are supposed to give way. Think about it everyone is going for clap to get a baseline and start whittling down. Add the fact that that Porsche Turbo and I were to only non caged cars with slicks then you can see how stars need to align to get some clean laps in.
It frustrasting like trying to merge on the freeway and being stuck behind a slow ass Yellow Mach Mustang:suicide:.

So I had my photo/video shoot yesterday and found out what a few of the cars are that I will be going up against. Looks like the import mags brought in ringers for the competition which blows.
First off representing Honda Tuning is the Sport Car Motion Sponsored 1994 Honda Civic owned by Loi Song, owner of Sport Car Motion. He races the car in the NASA TT series and I found out that his times are in the 1:58 range.
Next up representing Import Tuner is the AMS sponsored 2008 Mitsubishi Evo X owned by Ryan Gates. He also races in the NASA TT series and was the 2008 National Champion. He runs in the 1:56 range. You can read all about him and his car at www.gates311.com (http://www.gates311.com)
The last car I know for sure representing Super Street is the Technosquare sponsored 2003 Nissan 350Z owned by Cheston Chiu. He races his car at NASA HPDE but has friends who are professional drivers so I'm sure he will not be driving his own car. I don't know what times he runs but I do know that the car makes 500rwhp.
So I now need to know from Carlos, have you ever run track 13 clockwise in your Vette and if so what times do you run? Also, I will be installing Maximum Motorsports Road and Track Box on my Cobra and will have either the NT01 ot the R888's. Do you think I will be able to come close to running under a 2:00? I found out that there is a 99% chance we will not be running configuration 13 but I just want to know what you think.

Day 1 counter clockwise:
04 sec: Pass the start finish line. Slower traffic keep left! Check you mirrors before pulling out to pass. The front straight is a good time to relax your grip, BREATH, and refocus.
07 sec: on the left hand side you will see a portion of the track that is not used (not in this configuration) I start breaking on the far end (the endclosest to the corner). When you get on the brakes apply slight pressure then go into threshold braking. This will transfer the wieght forward prior to applying full force and help you threshold break. Downshift as you finish your braking.
10 sec: This first corner is a classic 90 degree corner . So stay wide hit a normal center apex and start feeding in throttle at the apex.
13 sec: You can see I missed the apex by 2 ft (at least).
16 sec: get on the throttle as you unwind the wheel. The rumble strips are there for a little extra runout room, but they end abruptly.
21 sec: I stay as far left as possible and commence braking at the beginning of the rumble strips.
23 sec: Again noromal apexes through the esses. Until the second to last one. I will late apex the second to last on and run over (sometimes) the last one to line the car up for the carrosel.
31 sec: I didn’t run over the curbbing for the last carosel due to suspension issues (first time with KWs ans they were not set up/ car way way to low). You can see how I’m pinched in for the carosel. This alone will cost you a second.
33 sec: when in the carosel try to keep the car on the darker black asphalt. I just felt their was more grip their. At least it ws their last November.
43 sec: OK you can see how much more room there was to my right that I didn’t use. I wasn’t feeling it that day, but you can be much more aggressive with the throttle than I was. Get on it and let it move out to the rumble strips. There is so much more room there.
46 sec: bring the car to the left and you pass this turn don’t worry about clipping the apex focus more on lining the car up for going up “magic mountain”.
47 sec: straighten the car out on the left side and brake aggresively. The following section will have some elevation changes.
50 sec: You want to be 1 full car length to the right of where I was. Brake as necessary and prepare to turn-in
55 sec: Again I was being a pussy with the throttle, but you can see how much run out was available to my right as I exited.
59 sec: easy right hander nor flat out, but modulate the throttle as necessaray.
1:03: This is “riverside” a long constant radious turn that straightens out at the end. Set the car half a car width outside of center and try to set the wheel in one position and throttle steer. You will know when ou get it right because the arc will carry you all the way to the breaking point for the bus stop.
1:16: Get all the way left and start breaking at the beginning of the black asphalt mark nexttot the curbing.

No dude. I struggle to run 207s. I think I'm faster now with the r888s. The blue evo ten that passed was thw TT evo you were talking about. First time out plan on running high teens low twenties. Those cars are shop cars with high budgets. The level of effort put into them is high. They are trying to draw in customers. Also its the worst local track for a big power car like yours ;). I will finish analyzing the laps tomorrow. Pm me and let's talk.

That's what I figured which really sucks for me. Even Euro Tuner brought in a shop car. It's an Audi S4 with a twin turbo V6. They wouldn't how much HP it's making but they did hint to the 700-800whp range.
Well at least I should come in first in the emissions test.

Sounds like total cost and MPG should be within your reach too. You have an honest working man's performance car, which is what I thought it was a about. Cool as they are, those are very thinly veiled (basically not) race cars masquerading as street cars. Clearly and Apples and Oranges situation. Still should be a lot of fun though.

Leave it to the Import croud to have to bring in ringers!! :pot_stir:

Thanks guys. Adam, I did ask about you guys coming out and they said no. They are letting my brother (Throttle Crazy) come because we are going to stay in his motorhome and one person from GTR but they are not allowed to take any pictures or video.
As Ben stated Motorgen.com already sponsored me and so there were Motorgen.com stickers on the car for the photo shoot. I'll take some pictures today and post them here so you can see how the car turned out. There will be three articles in 5.0 Mustang and Super Fords covering my car and the event. The first will be a feature on my car, then there will be a followup article on anything that is done to my car between the photo shoot and the event and the final will be the event coverage.
The only full sponsorship I've gotten so far is from Crest Collision Center so everything else is coming out of my pocket. I'm am getting discounts for promoting the sponsors with stickers but it's still costing me. The highest cost so far is of course the suspension but I'm getting 50% off which is better than paying the $2300 that the kit normally costs. I also added a few stickers for companies that didn't sponsor me but that I have their parts on my car just to make the car look better.
Also, I might be getting full sponsorship from Vortech who will be rebuilding my supercharger. It leaks oil both internally and externally so I'm sending it in to have it serviced. They said they might be able to cover that cost but I won't know until after it's done.
The only thing I still need to get are tires and both GTR and my brother are working on that. If anyone has contacts for tires see what you can do. I need full sponsorship for them because I'm tapped out and can't afford to buy them. The rules for tires are that they can't be under a 60 UTQG and have to be DOT legal. I'm trying to get either the Nitto NT01 or the Toyo R888 which are both DOT and have wear ratings of 100. I need size 245/45/17's. Again, if anyone has a connection see if you can help me out. I will be glad to display the sponsor's sticker on my car which will be seen in 5.0 Mustang and Super Fords, Eurotuner, Import Tuner, Lowrider, Modified, Super Street and Honda Tuning magazines.
I won't be doing anything to the engine to add more power for the competition. The only reason is because I maxing my combo as it is right now so to add more power I would have to change way too much and I don't have the funds to do so. Besides this is still my daily driver and I don't want to ruin that. Speaking of which while researching when I did things to the car for the feature article I realized that I built this engine over 4 years ago have over 70,000 miles on it as it sits today with the supercharger.
The only things I need to do for the engine is to rebuild the supercharger, put in a new smog pump because mine is getting noisy and then do a tune up.
