View Full Version : Reasonable powder coating

I've come to the conclusion that for the next month or so I'm willing to do powdercoating at a rate significantly cheaper than what a shop will do, however I only have a few colors left and am just looking to make right on that tire I blew out before my birthday weekend.

There will be no minimum, most shops have a mandatory minimum that's they just won't budge on, if its tiny and I can throw it in with another batch it will be cheap. Nor will I charge for stripping and blasting and masking, all I ask is you remove/disassemble anything you don't want blasted. Also if its simlple and I can do it quickly you can watch and wait while I work

Here is a intake and valve covers I did for a 4v in an imperfect wrinkle, shops charge 500-700 for this (I called quite a few to check on for it)

Is powder coating rims a good idea?

Shaolin Crane
05-20-2011, 08:06 PM
sure but I have size constrictions, largest rims I could do currently are probably 17" but that's really pushing it.

DarkestSpade

I dont even know what the rims are called but I sort of want them black..
Would they even look good?

http://www.dndautodetailing.org/Mustang_IMG_2957.jpg

Would it look ghetto?

It's either that or buy these

I love black rims, especially on dark or black cars. I believe those are 18s so I'm gonn say they won't fit in my oven, are they currently mounted to your car?

DarkestSpade
05-20-2011, 11:17 PM
Yes they are on my car, I think they are 17s too will double check in the morning. Don't know if I should get bigger rims for bigger tires or make these black. Either way I have a g5 alloy stang with the elenor scoops. Want to put a black stripe and black rims on it.

How much for a upper and lower intake mani and a valve cover in wrinkle black and just plain black?

I wish you could do ceramic coatings.

Can you do wrinkle red a la ferrari? We have some valve covers from a VG30ET.

Also, some rims from a Taco (in black I think), but I'm guessing those will be too large.

What intake? Wrinkle will require a deposite and be about 6 days to get more powder, I used the last of it finishing some of my stuff.

Black I can have finished asap depending on the intake, pics are always a huge help

Pictures will help imensly, I can do red wrinkle if I can find the powder, but I'm not sure how close to ferarri red it will be, very limited colors with wrinkle powders.

Is it for the eclipse? I would assume so since the gto has a plastic intake

Ok Ben I found your red powder, looks very similar to the ferrari powder

It's for the Eclipse. Intake mani is smaller than the one you did for the Stang. I'll pm you some pics as soon as I get the engine and trans pulled and pull it off.

Shaolin Crane

So did you ever get those pulled? Ben did you ever check on the intake?

I'll get pics to you by Friday evening. I can wait a bit on the intake mani to be powder coated but I would like you to media blast my rusty turbo parts so I can paint them soon. PM me your number so I can talk to you about it please.

Damian
06-07-2011, 01:01 AM
Do you just do media blasting? I now have 6 calipers that need to be done. 2 are mine and 4 are for a buddy of mine. They are Evo Brembos and they supposedly weeken when powder coated. My lazy ass will send you pics tomorrow and call you as well. My 2 year old wears me out!

Shaolin Crane
06-07-2011, 09:24 AM
Any metal wears out when you blast it, depending on what I'm coating and the composition of the metal I'll only dust the part before I coat it, that is if there is any concern of the quality of the metal. Problem with blast is the sand gets everywhere, so just assume they need to be torn down and rebuilt for safety.

Send me pics of everything and we'll work something out

Post up on mkrsocal.com for powder coating. I'm sure some guys over there will take you up on some work. My Eclipse drained me pretty good, so I have to hold up on some work I want done, unfortunately. If you sign up over there, send me a pm so I can approve your account, we've been getting a ton of spammers over there.

Guy, do you have any blue powder? I think I am going to do my upper a-arms for the truck in blue.

Do them black.

Shaolin Crane

Yeah i agree, if you do them blue it will look like POS fabtech stuff, just doesnt look right

I have red, but not a bigger oven yet, however my oven did burst into flames over the weekend so i'll probably be building one soon

If I do not do them in blue then I would prefer gray. Like a Camburg Gray.

94cobra69ss396
10-18-2011, 01:12 PM
Either black or gray but not blue. It's not that Fabtech stuff is junk either because it's not. I used to have Fabtech radius arms on a Ranger I had and they worked well. It's just that blue as well as red on suspension looks like crap.

Shaolin Crane
10-18-2011, 03:33 PM
I agree and thats what i meant, it makes them look cheap, when it comes to suspension pieces its black for me.

What about silver? Im about to pick up a few pounds of silver for my stuff, if you want silver it'll probably be a bit cheaper since the more i order the cheaper it is.

Due to suddon changes in my equipments functionality and my personal time being monopolized by powdercoating I am no longer performing coating work. Maybe sometime in the future but for now i am removing myself from availability. Thanks to those who did bring me work, take care.
