I was talking with my Mercedes tech buddy about his SBC dyno tuning days at UTI. He told me, that in order to pull 380 wheel hp out of his hopped up small block, he did approximately 80 dyno runs to achieve that hp level.
No not 8... 80 dyno runs. This tells me one thing, if you don't have free access to a dyno with fairly extensive carb tuning/ dist curving knowledge or an electronically controlled motor, you'll never make the kind of numbers that you see cookbook engines making in Hot Rod magazine.
On the other hand, with an LM1 you can get much closer than you would by reading plugs. I'll never spend money on a dyno run ever again. When I finally buy that LM1, that will be enough for me.
