I went ahead and put Gingerbread on my Droid X this morning after it leaked out. The difference is incredible. Going from 2.1 to 2.2 wasn't that big of a deal as far as I could tell, but 2.3 is WAY faster. I ran quadrant and got 1877 this morning. On 2.2 I think I was getting in the high 1300/low 1400's.
It cost me $2 to get the Droid X Bootstrap, but again, this is well worth your time. Here is where to get the file with instructions (http://www.droid-life.com/2011/03/27/gingerbread-released-for-droid-x-and-2-downloads-and-instructions-provided/) :drink:

Won't this come out as a free automatic OS upgrade eventually?

Yeah, but probably not for a while. I wasn't willing to wait. It's worth $2. It feels like a whole new phone :)

Lol my old nexus one has had 2.3 for a little bit now and I love it. It makes it feel almost as fast as my atrix

The nexus S feels so cheap. Thats kind of why I went with the atrix

I just got 2300 on the atrix running 2.2. I think my nexus runs somewhere about 2000 with 2.3 (dont have it on my at the moment)

I get about 1975 on quadrant but I have my samsung vibrant running over clocked at 1.2ghz with a rom called Sweet Honey 2.7.2. The developers at xda-developers make some really amazing things. I could honestly say I care less about what samsung releases and much more about what those guys can do with a phone. When I had Android 2.1 on my phone I had a lag fix which scored 2400 on quadrant. Amazing stuff.

Or not. It apparently only went out to a few people and then they stopped. I just updated my phone to the newest release of Gingerbread for the X, which is version .595 The rumor is that .596 is going to be the actual X release and comes out next weekend. Anyone running Froyo right now won't believe the speed difference going to .595 or above. It's like a whole different phone

I'm looking forward to it. App speed on my X is perfectly usable, 3G is what's a bit annoying.

Yeah, you're going to look back and realize how shitty 2.1 and 2.2 were. Going from 2.2 to the .573 build of Gingebread was a HUGE leap. Going from .573 to .595 feels like an almost equally huge jump. You won't believe the performance difference.

FWIW, I set a new personal quadrant best of 1999 with this build of Gingerbread. On the .573 build I never got better than 1892 or so. On 2.2, I was getting 1400ish. We're talking about a 40+% improvement :)

I love my Android phone. I decided I wanted to read The Great Gatsby, so I found the file on the net and then downloaded a reader from the marketplace. Boom, book on my phone :)
