Ok, so my diesel Jeep engine takes "Mobil 1 ESP 5w 30" And NO ONE sells the ESP blend locally, it's going to cost me about $135 to get enough for one oil change shipped here, not including the oil filter. (My engine takes 10 quarts)
ANYWAYS, I was on the mobil 1 website looking for vendors and I noticed that ESP stands for "Emission System Protection" in the description the oil is just specially formulated not to mess up the DPFs (diesel particulate filters), so my next logical question... If I cut the DPFs off and weld in a pipe, can I then run regular mobil 1 5w 30 safely???

Also, there are sensor tube leading to each DPF. If I cut the DPFs off, will it throw a code?

I called Mobil 1, not sure the "tech" I talked to really knew the answer. He said running normal mobil 1 5w 30 can destroy all of my emission components, then he asked if I had catalytic converters, which I'm pretty sure that I don't, then he said O2 sensors, which there might be leading to the DPF tubes, then he said the EGR. I don't see how diesel exhaust can ruin an EGR... I think he was just naming off emission components that he knew of. Then I asked if the engine would be protected internally with 5w 30, and he said you should be fine...
What do you guys think???

I took a ford deisel class last night. The instructor and the Ford book say any codes may result in a automatic 30% reduction in power. It will set a code. I forgot, what year is the Jeep ? Any diesel 1998 and up is subject to smog inspection now. This was a intro for the new 6.4 and 6.7 Ford.
They have sensors that watch back pressure before and after the DPF. If they do not match set parameters it will code out.

Gay.
It's an 07. I've gone through the smog check, it's just a visual inspection. I could have had the DPFs just gutted out, but if you think that will set off a code I guess I'll just pony up and buy the ESP oil.

...At least the service interval is 12K miles.

Looks like I can save about $30 going with Amsoil. I've always been curious about Amsoil. Anyone know if their stuff is good?

Every objective review ive ever read on oil brands puts Amsoil at or near the top. Every time. Id have no reservations at all about using it.

Part of the visual is a OBD2 check. If it has codes or has had codes cleared and monitors not run, FAIL !

Do a forum search, somebody here is affiliated with Amsoil and can get it at a bit lower price. At least that's what I recall.

Amsoil is a very good product just harder to get. I use Royal Purple because it is not as hard to obtain. But I put amsoil in my Quad and no problems next time Royal Purple and Not good at all I couldn't even ride it the clutch was slipping like a mofo. So I drained it flushed it and refilled it with amsoil and no problems.

Do they just make engine oil, or do they make manual trans oil too?

Who Royal Purple or Amsoil?

Honda 450 motors have two places for oil they both take regular motor oil though one with Molly and one without. But me being Lazy I waited to change the oil the day I was leaving to go ride and had Royal Purple and decided to use it in both sides meant to look it up to see if it was okay but i was running late. Most bikes use the same oil for both functions.

Amsoil, and I mean for my T56, which DOESN'T take motor oil. BTW, some Honda's (Civics?) also take motor oil in their transmissions I think.

They have a pretty large product line. So I am sure there is something for every application. Check out there site.

I run redline ATF in my T56.
So... I call this Mercedes dealer and ask if they stock the 5w30 ESP. They say, YES, I ask the list price, good deal so I drive there after class... 10 miles. I get there and talk to the same guy, say I'm here for the 5w30 ESP, he says oh ya, but you mean 5w40, I say no 5w30, he says 5w40. I say... no, 5w30. He says diesel right? It's 5w40. No you stupid fuck! (I didn't say that part) Then he proceeds to tell me that he doesn't have the 5w30... Thanks for assuming to know what I need better than I do you prick!
...Think I'm going with Amsoil. I'm just going to double check the specs in my owners manual and make sure it meets the criteria.
Chuck, if I buy the $10 membership I get it at 'wholesale price' for 6 months. It's like $77 before shipping and tax for 10 quarts. I doubt I'll get it much cheaper than that. It's like $115 shipped with the filter and tax.

My 6.4 has no DPF, just a gutted body. I also have the tuner set with a "stock" tune to fool the obd2 check and to keep from smoking.
So my suggestion would be to get an exhaust, intake, and tuner to take full advantage of removing the DPF, i gained 10mpg city and highway after. My truck gets about 24mpg highway and 18 city

X2...
the smog on the new diesels is a scam by Cali to get more money... greedy bastards.
Doing what Crane said is a great idea... From what I have heard, it will most likely void your warranty. The techs I talked to at a Chevy and Ford dealer confirmed that. But that just may be the individual dealers themselves and more of an exception rather than the rule.

I don't know that they make a tuner for the Jeep diesel.
Chuck:
AEL5L-CA (European Car Formula 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil) Case of two, 5 liter jugs.

Remember diesels also can go much further between oil changes over a gas engine.

My dad's 2008 Harley F250 has exhaust intake, dpf delete(which is basically just piping that replaces the dpf) and a tune. picked up a shitload of power and mpg. I'm pretty sure he'd beat my little brother's firebird formula, lol.

Well I'm going with the Amsoil, so I'll leave the DPFs alone for now. If I stumble upon a tuner in the future I'll bust out the reciprocating saw and the welder.
