View Full Version : My Xbox is dying...

So now all the sudden my 360 is displaying everything with a yellowish tint and sometimes doesn't display anything at all. I've tried different tv's and inputs with no avail... It's looking like its time to hand it over to Microsoft, anyone had experience with returning merchandise to them or their customer service?

Yeah, I returned mine and got a new one. It wasn't that bad. Call and request a box. Follow the instructions, drop it off at a UPS, and a new one will show up in a couple weeks.

Red Ring for me. All 8 - 10 million first generation Xbox 360's will eventually fail. The customer services is okay, but the turnaround time is weeks.

Lovely...:suicide: Well I guess it could be worse.. could have been out of warranty. Now I just have three to six weeks without an xbox. so do I have to give the hard drive too?

No, you keep the hard drive. I suggest not calling them on a Monday or Friday. Budget at least a half hour too.

Yeah I took care of it today, the lady was a mess and didn't speak English, hard to understand and repeated the same information two or three times. Your right took about half an hour, now I just gotta hope I get it back in one peice. :sm_up_there:

If it's a consistent color problem and you're using the RGB/ component cable it could be the cables. Try switching them before you ship it off. Any RCA cables will work despite what you may hear, it's all copper wiring.

Yeah I tried the regular non hi-def cables and they were no go as well. Not to mention my fan is REALLY loud and annoying and i'd just rather have the whole thing onced over considering my warranty is almost up and xbox's don't have a great rep reliability wise.

Yeah, the quality on the 360 is really unacceptable. I've never seen a mass market electronic device as poor.

I'm just amazed that with as shotty as the quality has been that they still sell and haven't been black balled. I suppose if the competition was greater that might happen but as it stands now I guess they just got lucky.

Yea, pretty much what I heard from my UPS guy. I have an X-Box 360 from the second batch built. Mine got the Red Death. They sent be a new one out and didn't charge me. The new one(almost a year old) is working great.:bigthumbsup:

Yeah when you have a box with instructions and pre-cut tape mass produced you know you have problems. I was impressed it came with packaging materials i figured it would just be a prepaid box.

I went to go pick up Seans at UPS Anaheim today and the lady looked at my ticket and then walked to the back and came out and said "I haven't seen a girl picking these up..."

I then asked, "I guess you know what is in here then don't you?" She answered "Yes" with a smile and a grin.

Good ol Microsoft!

Well mine finally got a red ring last night. Almost 2 years to the date of purchase. Ah well, now I've got a new one that runs way cooler and quieter....got 2 games out of it too.

Did you contact Microsoft about getting it fixed. They fixed mine twice for no charge. The first time it was out of warranty.
After fixing it the first time they gave me a three year warranty.:thumbs_up:

Nah I had the extended warranty from Best Buy so I just took it to them and got a new one that night. They gave me the full value from the original purchase and since the price dropped $80 or so, I actually made money after they rang up the new one. Plus the new one came bundled with Halo 3 and Fable 2. So overall it was a pretty good deal.
