Pulled from their website, about why their mufflers are better than straight through mufflers.

"The interior case volume of the inside of a Flowmaster muffler is far superior to that of a "straight-pipe" or "straight-through" muffler design. Imagine filling a "straight-pipe" or "straight-through" muffler with water vs. filling a Flowmaster muffler with water. Which one do think would hold substantially more volume?"

Um, who gives a f*ck?

"The deflector in a Flowmaster muffler acts as a one way check valve eliminating reversion back to the engine and creates a low pressure area to help scavenge the exhaust."

Hahahahaha.

Feel free to delete this thread if they are a potential sponsor. But the more I hear about Flowmaster the less I like them. My first set of Flowmasters were quiet and made more noise inside the car than out.

Then seeing muffler flow test comparisons you can see that Flowmasters have some of the worst flow numbers out there.

And I'm sure that I've offended half the forum here, but yeah. This is reality. Flowmasters sound cool, and let's leave it at that.

I have Flowmasters on the Chevelle. I haven't tried a different muffler on it with the 454 but I might run open exhaust at the next race since there isn't a decibel limit. I just need to make some extentions.

That looks good. What mufflers are those and what size?

Custom "faux" mufflers 3" body 2 1/2" straight through. Buddy made them for me to "look" like mufflers, waiting on something that "looks" like cats however

I've known about the "shitflow" Flowmasters for years. I went to Pypes mufflers and they flow nearly TWICE what "Shitmasters" do.:sm_up_there:

Is that on the Vette and what size exhaust? Could you feel the difference? I went with the Flowmasters because a friend of Phil's who owned a muffler shop gave them to me for a really good price. If I could make more power with something else I might look into that.

Have you heard it yet? It has to be really loud.

Yeah, i drove it onto the trailer monday when i picked it up, when i got back i did some burnouts to hear the sound. It's loud, but lower than 3k rpms its not bad and has the perfect sound IMO.

Is this car more for the track than the street?

Pypes has a wed site. I had regular turbos mufflers before that were 35 years old. Pypes do come in 3 inch. They have there different types with each their own sound.

Shitmasters flow about 350 cfm (each) cold and my Race Pro's flow at 505 each.

I vote for Dynomax Bullets. That's what I run on my car (you can guess which car). Straight through, 3", only $40 a pop from Jegs. No packing to blow out, loud but they take the edge off.

The only mullfer that flows better than the Bullet is the... Borla XR1? I think. But those are like $200+

You can also get them in different lengths. I got the longer ones, 18" I think.

P.S. If you're going to sell your Flowmasters let me know, I have a friend with a Jeep that wants one.

I want to run the Chevelle without them at the next race and see what it does and then go from there. I'm going to make up some 18 inch tubes to bolt on to the end of the headers to extend them before the September race. I've heard that the extentions help with midrange power witout hurting the lower and upper ranges but I guess we'll see.

Nah LM1's are the highest flowing muffler, empty can.
