Long standing theme with me.

I wish Ford would build a two seater sports car to go up against the Corvette. I've been a lover of Vettes for a long time and have my own. Their history is truly great. But . .

I'm 35 years old. I make a decent middle class income and can begin to entertain such a brand new car.

Unfortunately for GM I will NOT buy from them. As far as I'm concerned they betrayed the American ideal of what a company should be, and Ford did not. I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Ford could revive the Thunderbird moniker as it was originally intended or come up with something new.

How about something like a front mid-engine Coyote based platform around 3,000lbs (less is more). Base could be NA, high end could be turbo charged. Prices in the range of $50k-$100k+. Build for the world including RHD, consider Ford's existing European cache, and don't skimp on interior.

I would pay. So would others. Corvette is profitable for GM, but their demographic is old. Go for it.

Yeah, it's that serious. :rolling:

Plus, Ford has been killing it on quality for a while now.

I guess it is because I have been raised around Chevy my whole life. My second vehicle would have been a Lightning ask Sean he should remember. But my Mom wouldnt let me buy a Ford. She said "Your not really going to buy a Ford are you."

That's when you say, "Yes mom, I'm not a socialist."

Ford does have a two seater sports car to go up against the Corvette. It's called the Cobra, and it comes with an extra rear seat that is just for show. Like a Camaro. Remove it to make room for your rollcage. Voila, two seater.

I would rather buy a car from a company that betrayed the American work ethic than a company that wrote the "let em burn letter." But then again, I have no such ethical sense and I will buy a car from anyone, as long as it is pretty and fast.

Neither the Cobra nor Camaro are sports cars. They're muscle cars, and yes there's a difference. As for Ford's actions in the specific case of making an engineering/legal/insurance calculation in the past, you have an action that was, while terrible, limited in scope and time, and for which they paid a price in a variety of ways. That's the best we can do under any system.

My problem with GM (and many, many other companies) is that the participate in a form of economics that is legalized theft from everyone, and just plain stupid even from a utilitarian POV.

I'm not telling other people what to do with their money. That'd be completely against everything I believe in.

If its 450hp NA, < 3300 lbs, and IRS im going to be angry  Theyd finally be making the mustang I always wanted them to

Although Yeah, calling a Mustang a "sports car" is a massive stretch. Ive owned four, they were all awesome, but sports cars? not even with three hundred pounds taken out of my 94 and almost $5k in suspension work was it a sports car. Its just too big

The Fox platform can be substantially modified to do XYZ. I'm not sure exactly what, may be a totally custom tube frame, but I sort of remmeber Carlos (BADDASSC6) mentioning that one of the ass kickers in his racing series is in a Mustang of some kind. Sure, strip down to nothing and do custom everything and poof you can do a lot. I'm talking, hi Ford, here's $60k, where's my ready to go sports car.

Probably still my favorite Mustang (Ford) of all time is the Shelby GT 350.

Thats why i used the word "now". Cause ive gone that far just short of a tube chassis. Harness seats, now a two seater, Maybe thats why ford wont make one. Thousands of people are purely content to purchase a mustang and turn it into their own sports car or whatever they want it to be.

Mustangs may have the biggest aftermarket support of any car. Yes the AIX national champion runs a Turbo SN95 with lots of carbon, brakes, agent -47 suspension........... He has skill and sponsors.

While probably the better looking of the GT 350s, the 67 is not even close to the performance of the 65-66. The longer they produced this car the more "gentrified" it became.

I knew it was reduced over those years, but I didn't think it was neutered or anything like that. Details?

The 67 gained almost 500 lbs, had softer suspension, the scoops used to cool the brakes were just cosmetic, and it had an optional automatic transmission. You could get a supercharged version, however.

The 68 didn't even have a high performance engine any longer. Just a 4-barrel 302.

Wow! I did know it got that de-balled that fast.

65 GT350 would still be my all time favorite. A legit road-going race car. Solid lifters and no back seat.
