Thanks to Ben I can now show some photos. We are switching her over from an automatic to a 4 speed. We have pretty much just taken out the seats, console, and some of the carpet.

Since we have a bunch of the interior out and my dad wants to replace the carpet anyway, my mom and I have been trying to convince him the brown interior is wrong for a yellow car with black accents. He needs to go with a black interior as well. Cross your fingers.
Some day this will be mine. I told him when he dies if it is not left to me in the will I will feed his rotting corpse to the fishes!!

Latest update.
We have the tranny in finally and have the drive shaft ready to put in. We repainted the underside of the hood to clean it up, not the same color but looks pretty good for a rattle can. We are going to put the ram air back on. I have a question though. We fired her up the other day just to see if she would still turn over. She did but immediately died. My dad though I was because of the vac lines to the original auto tranny. We plugged those and still dies right after turning over. Anyone know of any issues with the Tranny swap that we might have missed. Are there any wires that need to be spliced together or just cut? I know I have not supplied a lot of info here but if there are any things you ran into or know of anything that are common oversites that would greatly be appreciated. We are trying to get her to the Meet tomorrow.

Does the vehicle fire, then when you let the key go back to run it dies or does it run for a few seconds then stop?

It fires up and as soon as my dad just lets go of the key it dies. A guy here at work thinks it might be the ballast resistor on the ignition system.

Yep, that is my first thought too. Does it have a resistor wire instead or ballast resistor? Next check that you are getting voltage to coil with the key in the on (run) position not the start position.
I take it you are still runnig points. Change the condenser if all the rest checks out.
You can run a 12v wire to the coil (+ side) to test. Only for a few seconds, plenty of time to see if it runs.
If you can't get it to run, get my phone number from Ben or Sean and give me a call.
Check PM.

My dad has a red 72 but i ran the vin# and it looks like it was a cheapy model. It came with a 302 not the 351, It does have the 9 inch rear end. We bought it cheap but its missing some stuff like the front chin spoiler the grill is craked hhhmm the interior is in bad shape and some other stuff ill try posting pics of it as well later on.

Yea, MSD states to by pass the ballast resistor. But, the MSD will fire if not under 9 volts. When I talked to Adam, what he told me makes me think it's the classic MSD box problem. I could be wrong since I haven't looked at it. It's just having had to get dozens of people fired after being stranded by the MSD boxes failing I'm kinda NOT a MSD type of guy.:sm_up_there:

Me either although that is what I have on the Chevelle and the Cobra. I originally had all Mallory on the Chevelle which I loved but the Comp 9000 went out and the only thing that I could replace it with was the MSD so I did. Then the box went out so I replaced that with an MSD. I regret not ordering the Mallory stuff and just waiting for it to be shipped.

There is ONE good thing about MSD. When the box goes out they have a flat rate to fix it. Last time I checked it was $60.00. No matter what is wrong with it. Wonder why that is??????:crutches::sm_laughing:

That's another thing I liked about the Mallory. I had it on my car for 12 years without any issues. I thnik it would still have been fine it I would have bought another Mallory distributor. Three days after I put the MSD distributor in the Chevelle the Mallory box went out.

I bought an Accel Coil in 1972 and used it until last year. It still works. I bought a NEW MSD coil and it only lasted 1 month. Yep, Accel and Mallory made great stuff--still do.

Well, she is finnaly up and reunning. The problem ended up being...wait for it...my dad had taken out the dash cluster and did not hook the tach back up so the engine would not run. Once we did that she ran just fine. She is avery rich and the clutch still needs to be adjusted but she is running again. He took her down to Savi with me today. I would of had video of his first run but when I tried to upload the 4.5MB file, all it did was think about it. After like 15 min I just said forget it, Motorgen.com sucks!!!
Gotta love the shameless Motorgen.com sticker placement in the shot.

Almost forgot about this post. So we got me dad's car running and took her out months ago and he could not get it into 4th gear. We adjusted everything and double checked everything and nothing. So my dad called the outfit that he bought the tranny from about 9 months prior and they said send it back and we will look at it, no questions asked. Well about 2 months go by before they find out that a syncro was bad (they were at shows and the tranny guy was on vacation so it too that long for them to get at it). Once they confirmed shipping address for returning the tranny it took them weeks to actually send it. we finally got it in this weekend and everything hooked up and adjusted and... wait for it... wait for it... we have all 4 gears now. Of course when you fix one problem another one pops up. The car is runnig REAL rich and had a few nice backfires when we went down the street. Question for everyone is... do you know a decent shop that me dad can take it to up here in north OC that can just tune her up a bit and make sure everything is running right?

Talk to enkeivette. He lives only a few miles from you, has an LM2 and knows a bit about tuning carbs.

We need to get you up to Adam's house - you could probably REALLY help a lot on the Mach. We generally are washing cars up there so maybe we'd be willing to wash the Versa for you as trade :D

The carb is an Edelbrock. I would totally be willing to wash your car if you came up and helped out. Not to brag but I think I am getting pretty good at auto detailing and Sean is becoming a good assistant. :smack:

You stated you had a few back fires. Did you have the back fires before it ran rich or after? It's not common to have back fire thru the carb in a rich condition except for retarded timing or bad cam lobe.
OR, are you back firing thru the exhaust?:D:drink:

Before it seemed like it was through the carb and the backfires when we were driving was through the exhaust.

First thing- is check the floats and needle and seats. It's quite common for the floats to stick. What happens the fuel evaporates and the floats extend down and sticks. Blow out the needle and seat for crap.
There is not a power valve (like a Holley) on an Edlebrock to blow out with carb back fires.
Try this stuff first. We'll talk on phone soon.
