Some pics from the shoot at Prado.

Some people have better aim than others.

http://motorgen.com/pic/data/1003/10-07-24_Prado_02.jpg

This pic looks fake, but it ain't. This is what we were shooting at.

http://motorgen.com/pic/data/1003/10-07-24_Prado_03.jpg

Guy (a.k.a., Shaolin Crane) on the left, his GF Vanessa middle, and Cliff (a.k.a., GTTS>Some) right.

http://motorgen.com/pic/data/1003/10-07-24_Prado_04.jpg

Guy shows Vanessa some stuff.

http://motorgen.com/pic/data/1003/10-07-24_Prado_09.jpg

Ah, that's adorable. Guy instructed my brother and I as well but refused to use the spoon method.

http://motorgen.com/pic/data/1003/10-07-24_Prado_10.jpg

Guy, imagining something we don't want to imagine.

http://motorgen.com/pic/data/1003/10-07-24_Prado_14.jpg

Can you find the ejected shell?

http://motorgen.com/pic/data/1003/10-07-24_Prado_15.jpg

Uh oh, it's my brother the Israeli Irish hit man. Note that Vanessa having mastered the subject is now instructing.

http://motorgen.com/pic/data/1003/10-07-24_Prado_16.jpg

"Can't hit the side of a barn" Cliff preparing to bring the pain.

http://motorgen.com/pic/data/1003/10-07-24_Prado_19.jpg

Silly boys, this is how you do it.

http://motorgen.com/pic/data/1003/10-07-24_Prado_22.jpg

Hey look, I'm gonna shoot dollar bills (almost).

http://motorgen.com/pic/data/1003/10-07-24_Prado_08.jpg

http://motorgen.com/pic/data/1003/10-07-24_Prado_33.jpg

And, because we are a car web site after all, Cliff shows us his latest mod.

I don't know a thing about firearms, but meeting down @ the beach is something I'm always down with. Do you have a spot in mind @ the beach? Bolsa Chica, or near the pier, or where...? I've had success @ Bolsa, but you have to pay $15/car to park these days. We may be able to park in the lot directly to the east of the Bolsa entrance for free. If you hang out north of the HB pier, but south of Bolsa, you can park on the street, but you have to walk a bit, generally speaking, to get to the beach...

Fish Canyon Range :gatlin:, Azusa (605 @ 210), then a run up to Mt. Baldy :drive:, tram ride :bananallama: to the top for lunch :drool:with a view:nuts:.

Ok that's a working title.

It seems we have at least a few "firearms enthusiasts". Let's go shoot something! I mean that in a socially responsible way.

Firing Line Huntington Beach (http://www.firingline.net/)?
Late May? (Like Saturday May 29)

I'm thinking meet for shooting, then cruise down to the ocean for BBQ, etc.

Feedback please.

I am in either way. But I like Mt. Baldy idea better beach is a parking nightmare 22nd is better the old lady wants to go and she works the opposite weekends. This sounds like the perfect time to break out the S&W 500 I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. I got about 60 rounds at $2.00 a piece. So thats a sure way to blow some money in this economy.

The second trip is out, all-gone. Burro canyon is still open but no one should go there, they shoot with bags over their heads. How is it that all the freedoms for the many keep getting taken away for the demands of only a few? :crap:Found the info on "Fish Canyon" (link attached), thanks for the heads up, it's been a few years since I was there with my M1A1 .308 Super Match.

Looks like the San Gabriel Valley Gun Club (Fish Canyon) took over or merged with Burro Canyon, and if so it would be safe to shoot there, that club is "PRO". However, dirt roads to get there, the last time I went there 10 years ago, anyway, tic-toc.

I won't be able to make it. May is a busy month for me on weekends. I have to get ready for the Strawberry Festival. The youth group I am involved with has the Strawberry Shortcake concession and takes most of my time for the month, especially the weekend before and Memorial Day Weekend.

1 - kdracer73 and jedhead couldn't make the 22nd.
2 - I gotta pile of crap I'd like to make some headway on.
3 - This May has been a bit cold. Cold beach = not as much fun.
4 - June 26 is a full moon!

My cousin has some naughty weapons. As I understand they're legal because he owned them before the restrictions came into place. Also, apparently it's a PITA to transfer them to family members (requires tedious paperwork) and of course you can't sell them to anyone in CA.

nopem as long as you have a radlock for the AK, and an off list lower for the ar pistol, and a bullet button, and neither of them can hold more than 10 rounds you can legally own them

Those are not legal in Ca----:(
yep once you learn the loopholes of making them California legal its amazing!

join www.calguns.net and read and learn!

Amazing thing about ak pistols and ar pistols is there over 6 inch barrels so with a single shot sled put in place of the magazine with a bullet button of some sort makes the gun legal to DOJ for registration even though its not on the California approved list.
After you pick up in 10 days there is no law stating you cannot convert the single shot sled back to 10rd magazine. :pot_stir:

Also with full length rifles all you need is the mentioned raddlock or similar device to make the magazine fixed (which is easily reversible to detach mag if apocalypse zombie invasion happens. :lmfao: all in about 1 minute)
and since the mag is no longer classified detachable you can have all the so called evil features such as pistol grip, forward/tango down grip, threaded barrel, flash/muzzle brakes, etc.

check out www.riflegear.com for all your evil weapon goodness, (there in Costa MEsa)I've got my mac10 from there as well as my AR pistol and soon to be AR build. (also heard they just got SCAR's in as well :hail: )

And the law makers/politicians of California have already found out about this loophole but they do not want to change the rules because of the 10's of thousands of people who have already done this would legally be able to have registered assault weapons and be able to remove the mag locks/hi cap mags.
So they are just letting it be for now... That is until they eventually ban all guns :hunter:

I shoot in that range almost every weekend and it is safe, clean, well organized and well run. I did not know that they did not allow the S&W .500 shooting in there. I will check next time that I am in there. They do keep a pretty close eye on what ammo is being sent downrange. Can't blame them there. Their backing plates may not hold up to that kind of power.

I will find out next Sat or Sun, Shaolin, when I expect to go shooting again. I will double check on the 500 also. I would almost swear that someone in the lane next to me was shooting a 500 a couple of weeks ago. I just shoot a little puny .45 auto so they don't bother me too much.

If good souls you can't play, then maybe next time is the next fun. I have had to miss a number of great runs with MG due to "whatever & however" (would have been better there then where I ended up at). This hunt is good so do what you can to play, and if not, wish all that can the best that can be, and then dial in for the details.

Take care and smiles all-around.

I'm not the one who wanted info on the 500 Chuck was, my question was if they allow 5.7

But i saw we make the trip to lyttle creek, its about 15 miles inland of the 15 off sierra, right by bass pro shops, no firing speed limit, no caliber limit, no ammo check, no gun check and its only $13 all day, the road is paved all the way to the gun range, however the actual range itself is all rocks and would be quite rough for cars (i would NEVER drive my stang up there) but its alot cheaper than spending a few hours at an indoor range and with no restrictions means everyone can take all their goodies

Doesn't really matter to me, I am a member there so I shoot for free. If everybody or the majority want to do it outdoors, so be it. I just thought that it would be nice to join the group for a range shoot. I don't really think that the range will go for pre-registration, even pre-paid, but I will ask just in case. There are probably other ranges that will be more obliging, but come up short in other categories.

Went shooting today, as normal, couldn't hit the side of a big barn from the inside. Talked to the rangemaster. Prognosis does not sound good for the shooting event on the 24th. They advised that you can shoot any handgun up to & including a 44 mag. They also advised that a group shooting would be all but impossible on a Saturday. They also advised that lanes could not be reserved, other than for members, even if they were paid for in advance. I passed this info along to Vettezuki and the names of a coupler of people to talk to there about any other arrangements. How many people are members there. I believe that a member can share his lane with 1 or 2 other shooters for $9 an hour or $9 an hour for each non-member shooter. They operate on a first come, first serve basis.

Basically if the range master is not open to making such arrangements, it's probably a no go there. Where are the other local so-cal outdoor ranges, not *too* far from the beach? Prado? Lytle creek? I don't know anything.

That sounds pretty cool, but do think many would be willing to go to the Creek in the day and to the beach in the evening? (The groups don't have to be the same of course.) Maybe I'll finally buy a weapon if we go there. Riflegear has a Sig 522 LR that looks pretty cool for <$500.

The range closes at 4pm so if we showed up at 8am when they open, leave at 1-2pm and make it to the beach by 3-4pm, Its about 70 miles from Lytle Creek to Huntington beach

It is two team elimination challenge . Each team starts with 8 members, some handgun and some rifle shooters. A mix of law enforcement, military and competitive shooters. Each week there is a team vs team challenge and the loosing team must pick two members who shoot against each other in a elimination round.

The gun in question was totally legal, just a very rare, and very "evil" looking gun, and the site i posted on just so happened to have a member that was a DOJ agent. So was just bad timing, and bad luck i suppose.

- Rifles are rim fire only, no center fire.

It sounds like you guys had fun shooting, but the beach was not so easy. Vettezuki showed up pretty early in the day only to find out that if you didn't get there by 8, you don't get a fire pit. I arrived around 1, and it was crazy. It took us 45 minutes to find a spot to park. I remember now why I don't go to the beach that often...

In my defense, that was before I opened my eyes.

I'll be putting up some pics later tonight.

See OP for photos.

Some observations form the day.

Shooting guns is fun! I think both my brother and I were like, "uh oh, I feel another money sucking hobbey coming on."

Guy was kind enough to bring his .22, 9mm and .45 and let me shoot with them. Many thanks.

Shooting the .22 was fine, a good way to learn, and basically very inexpensive. A gun is less than $200 and you can buy 500 rounds for less than $25. That's a lot of shoot'n for not so much.

Next stop, 9mm. Kicks a lot more than the .22 obviously but not so bad. Ammunition isn't too expensive, but already a lot more than .22. About 50 rounds for $10.

I brought ammo for the .22 and 9mm, but Guy let me fire a clip from his .45 as well. It kicks a bit harder than the 9mm and makes a very different noise.

Cliff also let me fire a clip from his .40. It probably felt the most natural to me personally.

Thanks so much for the nod, almost like I knew what I was doing, just a little-bit, maybe. The D-37 took me to Super-car Sunday in Woodland Hills (7-25) many there really had a nice word for the marque >DATSUN< mod. Neat stuff this time out to SCS, the theme was a muscle car event and many of the muscle car crowd smiled at the ">DATSUN<" (wishing I still had my 1971 Torino/Clevland-351-GT). Smiles all-around at the Prado Shoot, it was a great day and fun-fun-fun, thanks again Mr. VS. So a proposed "Rule #1" for the next "Cannon-Run" our little "Miss Vanessa Oakley" has to shoot left handed, standing on one foot & blind folded, just to allow for a base group handicap.

Take care.
