Looking for a general agreement on whether or not this rim might be able to be repaired... srtforums seems to think so but I'm going to refer to you folks.

he's offering a killer deal and only this one tire needs to be replaced and only this 1 rim needs to be repaired. they look ugly from that angle tho so don't hate.

so you don't have to hate... these would eventually be painted/powder coated black or gunmetal.

might even take a straight trade for stock wheels

ok thanks for the input, Paul, sent them an email regarding cost. it totally doesn't look that bad at all. he's looking at a straight trade for stock rims with 3 tires having awesome tread. Kinda hard to pass up, would have to buy 1 new tire and fix the rim.

hmmm kinda more expensive then i thought... 80-100 bucks. enkei, get in here! what's your cost effective solution?

Hahahahahahahahaha. So funny that you called me out, I was just thinking you could take a body hammer and knock that edge back out. We fixed my friends Toyota 4x4 rims that way. And that dent is on the back so who cares what it looks like? Ben has the tool I'm thinking of. Go do some work on the snake and bring your rim over there and knock it out.

But it doesn't even look that bad, I would think it would seal with that little dent and you could just run it as is.

If sealing is still a problem there is this black goo that you can put around the bead before you mount the tire that will seal it also.

I'm thinking of a tool that looks sort of like the third one down. I used that on the snake to take out a dent above the left tail light, no filler required after I hit it out. Just place it on the inside of the lip in the center, hit it with a hammer and work your way out.

:) thanks enkei, I'm digging the silver as well so I'm going to leave them the way it is. imma try to hammer it out myself first I think, worst case scenario is I still gotta fix it lol.

Got them for a steal. Straight trade with 3 good tires for my stockers with 3 ok tires.

also enkei, i'm pretty sure the actual lip itself won't be too difficult to knock back in a bit, what about the actual section of the week that seems to have lost a little bit of curvature? i'm trying to think of a way i could position the wheel to strike that without bending other parts of it. any suggestions on how to go about it? i could always just lay it down and hit it with a mallet... that'd be too easy. i have a 50 lb sledge that might work nicely, not at full swing tho of course. just need something with enough weight/mass to carry some momentum in order to transfer the appropriate amount of energy into the wheel. once that is taken care of I'll be doing a full suspension overhaul to adjust all 4 corners and get it sitting PERFECTLY.

Don't hit it with a mallet it. Use the body hammer tool and hit that with the mallet. If you hit it too hard with a hammer you'll fuck up the mounting surface and it won't seal. Borrow Ben's tool. Trust me on this. Hitting the lip itself might pull the rest of the rim back into place. If not, there is another tool that you can place on the wheel to hit with the mallet. Looks like this. You can't tap it, you have to whack it like a hooker that won't put out.

at the moment I been workin on it cold, but not really making any progress, but if I can get my hands on a dirt cheap tire I may just fork the cash to get it done professionally. It makes sense lol. If I had a blow torch I'd be done already hahaha

Anybody have a blowtorch I can borrow? Maybe the easiest thing to do would be to heat the metal and knock it back into shape a bit.

That's not that bad. You don't really need to heat it up. Just use the proper tool. My friends truck rim was way worse than that and we did it cold. Less crying, more hammering.

lol. i don't have that little tool u've pointed out to me so I'm gonna end up waiting for it haha. My main concern is about cracking it with a hammer and making it worse. I'm not even sure I have ANY body repair tools lol. All I got is a hammer.

Ben, are you reading this? do you have something that I might be able to use? the aforementioned tool? I'll work for it :)

I took two out of seven bends out of my wheel that were twice as bad, cold. I simply used a medium size sledge and 2x4. Your doing it with the tire removed right? Just making sure. ;)

Haha I've not gotten around to that yet, I don't have a way to remove it so I've just been tinkerin at it for now.. I'll take it off, I knew it'd help but just haven't bothered lol explain the 2x4 to me, my main concern was hitting it hard enough to bend the other lip lol I'm guessing u used the 2x4 to somehow protect it

If ya want to swing by, I can unmount it for you, then you can :judge:

Don't make love to it , HIT IT ! What we used to do was put the rim on a piece of carpet, so not to scratch it, put a sand bag inside to hold it, 2x4 on the dent and beat it with a BFH
.

Where you gonna be tonight? Or when would u be able to do it? I'm still tracking down a fresh tire for it but for all I know the tire is fine. It'll take a closer inspection to find out how damaged it is... They look sick, I wanna get the last one mounted lol

ok... ended up getting the tire off (thanks for the offer paul, kera's brother did it at the shop he works at) and upon closer inspection there is a crack that will need professional repair. no biggie, but not something I'm willing to mess around with. its hairline but it looks like it goes all the way thru. I'll keep everyone posted and soon I'll roll up the the meet in new shoes.

What a bummer man. Do you think they are still worth the trade? Straight trade that is lol.

absolutely! I had 5-6 year old balding michelin tires on aprox. 7/10 stock 6 inch wide wheels.

I received 3 17x7 inch Alloy wheels with two kumho ecsta spt and one kumho ecsta ast (or act) with wheels in perfect condition and tread still at about 80%. tires are 225/45/17

count it, even at 100 bucks est per wheel thats $300, throw the cost of tires on there, 140 est x 2 for the spt = 280, + 100 est for ast/act = total cost of the three = 680 not including mounting and balancing.

even if it costs me $200 to fix the rim, I'm picking up THREE Goodyear Eagle F-1 tires today with EXCELLENT tread, made in 2008 (so figure still tons of life and miles on them) for 75 bucks. My fiancees brother works at Dynamic Autosports in Lake Forest and will mount the tire for me. total cost = 275 (not to mention I'll have 2 extra tires for spares or to sell.) it's a win win. Wider Wheels, better tires less cost then buying new tires for my stock set?? figure 4 tires at est 125 (halfway between both tire costs) is still 500 bucks not including mounting and balancing. What can I say... I'm down.
