That is fu*kin rad. I wonder if he controls those hydraulics or if they're on some sensor.

This was in the news, spy shots forum last week. its a kick ass design. I just wonder how much power the Jeep has and how much power the chains can handle.

Chainlink extreme 4x4
Cams hydraulic Chain-drive 4x4, about 7 feet of up OR down motion on each tire: specs below Engine is a fuel injected Ford 5.0 V8 out of a '93 cobra mustang, c4 transmission and t-case out of an early bronco. 9" w/ 5.38 gears and ARB air locker mounted in the center (below driver) running chain gears on the ends where the swing arms pivot. Swing arms are hydraulically controlled individually or together, and there is coil spring and shock suspension as well. large chains running inside the swing arms turn hummer gear reduction (2:1) hubs at each wheel. tires are 39.5". The steering is linked through the swing arms as well and the steering box is mounted just infront of the axle below the driver. body construction is steel tubing (mostly DOM) and the total weight is 5900 LB.

How hard is it to rig up that hydraulic system? It seems like it'd be a real bitch.

Trust me, that guy has BIG BUCKS in that thing.;)

I wouldn't be surprised if the Gov't doesn't get a hold him for that design.

You think?! I wonder how long it took to design and build. That is extreme!

Nope. Too stupid. We'll spend $10000000000000.00 coming up with the same thing, and have China build it.:jester:

the hydraulics would be the easy part. Figuring out how to lever steering through a 6 foot swing arm and figuring out how to make the swing arms coil sprung AND hydraulically actuated. then putting in a package that wont grenade the first time it hits a rock is the hard part.
That said, as amazing as the articulation is, more conventional rock crawlers no doubt outperform this thing. There's only so much power you can put through a chain and complexity almost always adds fragility. Guys with built dana 60's and dana 80's on unimog (3:1, stronger than hummer) portals still break shit all the time.
Still, its an amazingly novel piece of garage engineering.
