Who's running no cats? I'm seriously considering buying a catless DP just to bolt up my exhaust. I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with involved fees if caught and whether or not you've had any trouble with cops so far... Please share.

Joe, please post up in here!! Your car is crazy loud and I want to know if you've been given any trouble yet..

I believe the fine is 5k per missing cat? I could be wrong though. I personally don't think it's worth it...

If you are stopped for any reason & the police find any illegal modifications; they can nail you for 2K per violation. I do have a suggestion though.... I took a catted aftermarket pipe that had a bad(rattling) cat, knocked out the honeycomb material, & bolted it back up on the car. Worst case if stopped & the cop notices the fuel smell? You get a fix-it ticket since you can tell him it does have a cat, see officer? ;) IMHO.....

This is what my brother did for his Turbo Buick, it works great

The thing about gutted cats is you leave this giant open space in your exhaust kinda like a bubble that can create a sort of "back pressure." It's not smooth anymore but I would imagine at higher velocity's it maybe has no effect anyways. Not good for boosted cars I would say. I gutted mine then shoved a 3" pipe in it so it was still a straight through pipe but with a catalytic converter jacket covering it if you will

I got pulled over twice because the cops thought I was taking off really fast when I was merging into traffic. It sounded like I was going alot faster than I was. I pulled over each time and immediately shut off the engine. Each time I got warned to slow it down and I waited until the cop was back in his car before I started it back up.

So I had some resonators installed. It's much quieter now. I can't have cats as long as I run my 2 step. That's why I got rid of them. The 2 step dumps unburned fuel into the exhaust and it plugged them up. I doubt seriously if any cop is gonna look under my car. He'd need a jack or a hoist anyway, as low as it sits. I had to get a low profile jack just so I could change my tires.

If they're really suspicious I think they can send you to the ref for verification.

Joe, the thing you are overlooking here is Tyler is a "punk kid" that drives a "ricer" car. That might be enough for some cops to take closer looks at things or just give him a hard time.

hmph for a "punk kid" in a "ricer" car I still haven't been pulled over in the SRT yet. Even when I had my "ricer" integra and did get pulled over was never given a hard time.. I know how to respect the officer who's doing his job, and never got asked to pop my hood, about my mods, or to slow it down. One guy did ask about my car, we talked about going to D1 lol.

Hopefully I won't get pulled over in the SRT.

Besides, Joe.. your car is STUPID loud. I love it. Mine just pops and gurgles and rumbles. Interesting enough to some cops. I've had cops literally ride my bumper, bikes and cars, check out my drop and exhaust, and then drive off. Lucky so far. :D

And Leedom... when I get my car track ready again lets go... I been dyin to run ya :smack: All this smack talkin is getting me excited.

this is the key here, although it'll still stink for a bit it's less noticeable and quiet. Whenever I get pulled over I pull over at the safest possible location making sure that the cop has room to walk up to either side of the car, roll both windows down, shut off the car, put my keys up on the roof and both hands on the wheel.

Being very much in favor of GREEN, I can not condone such behavior. I am totally disappointed.

I have a feeling I would not like the outcome. :drink: BTW just to make sure.. I meant no disrespect by the whole "punk kid", "ricer" comment. :)

None taken!!! :drink: I absolutely love your car, and it's inspirational as a strong beginning to my future mustang... I'm still kinda curious what the outcome would be...

i'm hitting close to 260-270whp/270-290wtq as it sits in a 3080lb car including driver (curb weights about 2950)... against ur mustang CW plus driveR? closer to 3600lbs maybe? against your 270-280whp (can't remember your #s)... w/ my shitty FWD traction vs your good RWD traction... curious curious curious.

I don't know what this ref is you speak of, but I doubt I'm gonna have any problems since I now have resonators that quiets the car considerably. I drive pretty tamely on the street, for the most part.

I really don't think I was overlooking anything. I was just answering Tyler's question about the trouble I've had because of the "catless" exhaust.

Seems like you have lots of experience getting pulled over, Tyler. :sm_laughing:

Why put the keys on the roof? Isn't that a little overkill?

Yeah, keys on the roof? Never heard of that one. All the other stuff is correct. If at night, make sure to turn your cab ligt on so they can see inside as they walk up. It's all about taking their stress level down.

ding ding ding ding!!

Joe, my last car was a cop magnet.

You can see a pic in my garage here. White with carbon Fiber hood, twin loop muffler exhaust, lowered blah blah blah.

Got pulled over for no front plate 3 times never got a ticket for it though... once cause I actually had it on lol just lower then the cop saw. It was starting to get obnoxious. I haven't had any kind of a ticket (fix it or otherwise) in 4 or 5 years... and haven't had a speeding ticket since I was 16 or 17 or so...

I just tended to get pulled over for some reason or another anytime a cop saw me. It was kinda ridiculous.

Leedom,
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. HAH. Lol just spoke to a place yesterday who claimed that after injectors with my s2 wga they could tune me to about 300 stock turbo... Can't do anything with that till I get my trans fixed tho.

Joe, the keys on the roof is ABSOLUTELY overkill. most people don't even do it, actually, I usually got asked about it when I did it, they wanted to know if I had ever been in jail or blah blah blah... it's simply to show the cop that I intend to cooperate, and I have no intention of running. Two things that give a cop another chance to take a breath and relax the situation. Tickets are subjective. Since i started doing that I've never been asked to pop my hood, never been spoken to disrepectfully (i'm still a punk kid to those guys... I look young), and never been given a hard time.
