The new GT should be pretty damn slick. (http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/17/2011-ford-mustang-gt-to-offer-412-horsepower-5-0l-v8/) Give me a 5.0 GT with the track pack and 3:73 gears please

:iagree:
That'd be pretty serious. There needs to be some body kits to differentiate them so you don't see yourself coming and going all the time.

I'm impressed as long as the weight stays about where it's at now.

This is good news indeed. Now all we need to know is the bore and stroke. This will tell us if more horsepower can be made without forced inductions.

It is nice to see that a company is not "cheaping" out on their production fleet. Ford seams to be putting their improved quality out there and saying beat this. That is a great way to win customers! Way to go Alan!!

Forged rods, cast pistons. I bet it could hold some descent power...

Bore x stroke 3.63 in x 3.65 in/92.2 mm x 92.7 mm
Well BRUTAL, there you go. Smaller bore longer stroke. But don't worry, with today's modern hair dryer technology I'm sure you could get it to dance just fine.

Now I'm wondering in if the next gen SBC will go done this road, smaller displacement, maybe even DOHC, DI, who knows.

Over and over I hear the C7 Vette will get a 5.5L V8. My guess is that it will remain OHV.

Here's what I want.
5.4 (327 important in Corvette History)
Direct Injection
Maybe DOHC
450 BHP
2,900 lbs Vette

While I get the idea of a larger bore and shorter stroke (so do the Italians) I'm guessing they didn't go on a weekend bender to come up with these specs.
Modern engines are built to run as-is from the factory, with high reliability, emissions, mileage, and (warrantied) performance. It seems they've done just fine by these standards.

Yea, but to really make GOOD horsepower you will need forced induction.:(

I remember in Hot Rod magazine in the '80's some one developed and made DOHC heads for a SBC.

A Mustang GT with a lot of hp and non-piggish weight? This can't be. Good for Ford! But I'll bet it's still slower than the Camaro.

I'll take one of these with the new 5.0. Thanks.

It shouldn't be. The power to weight ratio is definitely in favor of the Mustang, and I believe the gearing is as well.
