I think I'm going to check it out on Friday at a 3d theater. It's supposed to be incredible looking. The reviews are pretty solid too. (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/avatar/) It appears James Cameron has managed to make a 300million dollar movie about 8ft tall aliens and pulled it off :lmfao:

My daughters and I went to the 15 minute preview at IMAX Irvine a couple months ago. The visuals were absolutely mind blowing. We have tickets to the midnight showing at IMAX Friday morning. I took the day off Friday to sleep in.

I went and saw the movie last night. Wow! The aliens look absolutely real. The story was fairly predicable and standard, but the visuals left me speechless. I highly recommend watching the movie at the IMAX 3D. Worth every single extra penny. I will probably see the movie again.

Well, I saw it tonight and I'm extremely impressed. If you get a chance you definitely have to see it in 3d. I know the cliche "you've never seen anything like this" gets thrown around a lot, but it's honestly one of the more amazing things I've ever seen.

Damn good movie and with 3d you felt like you are a part of the blue man group...or something like that...really good movie though. Now off to bed I have to be up in 5hrs.

I love the Blue Man group. I'm in.
Now, my wife doesn't like sci-fi and I don't particularly want to go to the movies by myself. MG outing for a second show? Maybe I'll hit up my old pal motochi for a beer soaked outing. I think Doom was the last movie we saw. Probably this is better.

Cameron (director) tossed a bone to the women with a little sappy romance thrown in the movie.

I don;t know about the greatest movie ever but I loved it and so did Shannon. We both said we would see it again and would like to see it in IMAX. VERY worth seeing more than once. for a 2hr45min movie I never felt like looking at my watch. Kind of felt like the movie was like a "Dances with Wolves" minus Kevin Cosner and substitute "The People" for the Indians.

I reminded me of a modern "Custer's Last Stand" but from the Indians point of view (that is not a bad thing). It was well worth seeing---it was not what I expected--and I'm glad I saw it. I'm going again, it was that good.:thumbs_up::thumbs_up:

I think it's incredible. I think that a large part of the general population has lost it's ability to think freely. People just are looking for something to believe in and follow. If someone really took there oown life because of Avatar enduced depression I would love to know who. I would have a new place to walk my dog.

I contribute it to the "Elvis" factor in which 10% of the population believes Elvis is alive. Since there are more people there are more nutjobs.

Are you ready.....I understand the "Avatar Blues". It depressed me to leave that world of beauty. I think Cameron's movie is doing what he wants it do--instill a deep impact to the viewer about "Mother Nature".
I believe all life should be treated with the same respect. I drives Darlene crazy cause I won't even kill a bug -- unless there is no chose. I'll pick them up and take the little thing outside and release it.
Humans give me more of a dilemma. Some are just hard to not damage at times. :bang:

Finally saw this on PPV. Even in HD on my nice tv, I can see where this would have been awesome on the big screen. Story was nice and touching if completely predictable. Visuals were spectacular (though not fully natural yet, still a video game look to me . . . a very very good video game look). Music was lacking in my opinion, just wall paper really.

Beth and I just watched it a few days ago. Great special effects and good story line and I agree that the music was lacking.

I felt way more of a "Last Samurai" vibe.
Visually it's stunning. But not in a natural way for me, for the most part. I thought the idea was that it'd impress as being a fully synthetic, but somehow realistic world. Still looked a video game to me (an exceptionally well made video game). This is the problem with computer generated stuff. They remain too perfect and idealized to forms. Nature is filled with extraordinarily high order complexity and imperfection.
However, from a realistic standpoint, the most impressive scene to me is when the Navi chick was holding the human dude at the end. There was definitely a moment of suspended disbelief there.
