View Full Version : Honda kills new NSX, S2000, V8 Engine Program and RWD program...

What a bummer. Today Honda killed the V10 Acura NSX, the successor to the S2000, their V8 engine project, and their RWD chassis for future Acura's (http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/06/honda-kills-s2000-replacement-v8-program-rwd-acuras/) :suicide:
Honda is really in a weird place right now in my opinion. I don't really like any of their designs (civic, accord, pilot, or ridgeline) and the Acura designs are a complete joke (TSX, RL). Also, I don't see how Acura can compete with Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, and Cadillac with only V6 and FWD vehicles....

Honda has often bucked conventional wisdom and apparent trends. They were the only big Japanese maker not to go full into trucks (like Toyota and Nissan). That worked for them quite well. How do they compete? Maybe those other makers won't be able to make V8 RWD platforms for long, and Honda will net all of the development cost straight to the bottom line. They ain't dumb.

No VTEC V8 for us, yet! haha

I know, it's sad. I would have settled for a new S2000 with the turbo 2.3 out of the RDX :D

That would be pretty sick...but then people are going to put different turbos and such on them, and those rods are pencil thin as it is, and BOOM! All 4 out the side!
I know Honda guys, 96% of them are abunch of Morons that think you can get a VTEC controller and set it at 2,000 RPM and thier shit will be fast. hah.
Oh well. :]

It's official today, they killed the S2000 (http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/26/officially-official-honda-s2000-to-be-terminated-at-the-end-of/):(
It's really too bad, I always thought they were cool cars.

one less import in production. but it just means that this well built and designed roadster will hold its place as one of the best built roadsters of its time. at least they arent going to ruin it by making some dumb version of it to keep its name on the market like most car manufacturers do. and at least honda isnt going under like some domestic manufacturers are

True. The S2000 is an awesome car and I can't really think of anything else quite like it (although the MX5 is kind of similar). It's really too bad they killed it off :(

that would be a badass build. Would have a lot of trouble getting traction:smack:

I've thought about doing it, problems I foresee: looks like the passenger side subframe in the engine bay would need to be notched for the motor, big time. T56 should take care of the gear box but the rear end doesn't hold much power, it would need to be upgraded to a Silvia IRS, which is a bigger project than the motor install IMO.
After learning all of that I'm more about the LS Solstice or Sky. 2JZ would be easier in an S2000, it's been done a few times before.

Really? I could have sworn the LS3 was a 6 liter.

if you are looking to make power out of an s2k and keep the install somewhat easy just do an inlinepro build. they do a 2.5 liter stroker kit with a turbo putting out an easy 700 plus whp and they are running very low nines with absolutely no problems. The s2k motor is a very strong 4 cylinder motor. Just has the 4 banger sound to it.

That's awesome. How much hp will the stock tranny and rearend hold?

Not that much. That would be cool though, how much $?!

the build itself complet will cost you about 20 grand in motor and tranny (getrag 6speed) then swap the rear end with a sylvia rear end. no more problems.
The stock tranny is a good tranny but i blew my rear diff to peices when i was stock. stripped all the teeth off my pinion gear and about six off the ring gear. Now i am running a 4.77 gear though.

Holy crap 4.77 gears
The stock gearing is 4.10's, right? What's the 6th gear ratio on an S2000 tranny? On the freeway you must be humming right along :D

Was it a Skyline IRS? Thought it would have been a Silvia unit.

Yes the stock gears are 4.10's. The stock gearing would get the car up to 160 ish with enough power, now my car tops out at 142 ish. On the freeway i normally go about 65 to 70 mph because i am at 4500 to 4800 rpm. Its not that loud when not in it, but it takes time getting use to it reving that high and it doesnt help gas mileage. But around town i get great gas mileage:thumbs_up:
here are the gear ratios:
Gear Ratios - 1st 3.133
Gear Ratios - 2nd 2.045
Gear Ratios - 3rd 1.481
Gear Ratios - 4th 1.161
Gear Ratios - 5th 0.971
Gear Ratios - 6th 0.811
Gear Ratios - Reverse 2.8
Limited Slip Differential
Torsen (Type B)

I have always had respecto for domestic cars even though I havent owned one yet. Hopefully one day I will. However it has always been difficult to get respect from domestic owners and I think that is why I have come to really like this forum even though I have only been a member for a short time now. On the other hand, I have no respect for ricers, not all imports are rice, just the crappy imports that have ebay sponsorships

This thread is almost a year old... I just saw it. I've been aware of the news for some time. It's really too bad, I think the S2K is a great car. I have wanted one since they were available (there's a lot of cars I want :)). I've ridden in a couple and had a chance to drive one pretty hard, and I just love it. It could use a little more torque (like most small displacement engine cars), but it handles great, and feels real light on its feet. Good luck finding a new car with RWD, 200+hp, and sub 3000# weight. Can't really think of one off the top of my head. One of these days I will have an NSX too, I think that would make a great daily driver ;)
