Darlene rented an HHR from Avis for two weeks to drive to her new job. Hell, it was only $129.00 a week.

She just loves that vehicle. I drove it and it really surprised me on comfort and drivablity.

So guys what do you know of these HHRs???

Good or bad.

I think they're okay for a daily driver. I know the HHR SS has that 2.0L DI Turbo Motor so that could be fun.

The only problem for me is that they're a little pricey new:

2009 Chevrolet HHR Wagon (SUV)
LS FWD 2.2L I4 Manual/Auto N/A $18,720
Panel LS FWD 2.2L I4 Manual/Auto N/A $19,030
LT FWD 2.4L I4/2.2L I4 Auto N/A $20,720
Panel LT FWD 2.4L I4/2.2L I4 Auto N/A $21,030
SS FWD 2.0L I4T Manual/Auto N/A $24,815

I'm sure right now you could get it for a lot under MSRP, it's just you could also get a lightly used (sub 15k miles) Pontiac G8 with the 361hp and still under warranty for between 18.5k and 20k right now too... I think it would depend a lot on what you were looking for out of a car

Ok, here it comes..............."we" liked the idea of being able to fold the rear seats down and "sleep" in the back. Yes, we did dicuss this.;):drink:

I'm open to any suggestions. It's she just loves that HHR. :D

So, how do we join the credit union?:)

No, that makes sense, having some room to "stretch out" is nice

If you're looking for a vehicle in that range that isn't a minivan, I would look at the current Scion xB, the Honda Element, and of course the HHR.

The Ford Flex is kind of like it, only it costs like 10k more because it's bigger and upscale versus the HHR. It's more of a direct competitor with the GMC Acadia and the Chevrolet Traverse I'd say.

I'd rather have a FORD. But, there is no HHR type in the same price range. PRICE is going to be a factor. May try used. We'll see what we find at the Chevy dealers tonight.

I used to go with people to help them buy new vehicles. The fun I had with the sales people is priceless. I helped Darlene's brother in law buy a Toyota Pickup. Lets say he was "shocked" at how I treated the salesman.

I actually look forward to taking on the sales people. My farvorite is when they try and double team me with the sales manager. I used to be a Used Car salesman in the early 70's. They get the full treatment when they do that.

Yep, would you buy a car from me???:judge::rolling:

I rented a few HHRs , I don't care for the dash and the instruments but other than that it's an awesome little car, great design.
If you prefer Ford, go and rent or test drive a Ford Escape. It's a lot bigger than the HHR but does not handle like a SUV at all, it feels/handles like a car.

Hell, price range is usually a mute point for me at the dealers. I work on the monthly payments and the "down" (or lack of one).:judge:

But, I'm thinking $12,000 for a LOW milage one. But, that is subject to change at ANY time. I figure my credit is good enough for that.

But, the question is; Does darlene deserve this?????????:p

Alway a FORD guy. But, I talked to a guy at one of the shops by me and he has had his HHR for 2 years and over 60,000 miles. 0 problems.

I will look at the Escape, just for heck of it.

You won't be disappointed. The car rental place used to have Blazers and Trailblazers that I often rented, then when I got the Escape for the first time I was amazed that a car that size can handle so good - compared to the Blazer the Escape is a F1 car

I asked Throttle Crazy about them when I was over there tonight helping him put his 383 together. He said that he's only had them in for a few small thing but that they seem to be reliable. I don't hear that often from him so that means ithe HHR would be a good buy.

Hey, Thanks.

We looked at couple of used ones last night. One was a 2006 with 14,000 miles. Pretty clean. They wanted 12,999 for it.

Then we looked at 2009 LT2 for 24,000 +.

Now the SS is a possiblity we are looking into.

So let me see which way we are going to jump, then I'll take you up on your offer. Thanks again.:drink:

The Pontiac Solstice GXP, Saturn Sky Redline, and Chevrolet HHR SS are plenty of fun with 260 horsepower underfoot, and we can only imagine that the joy quotient increases as power improves. General Motors' performance division knows as much, and it's now offering an LNF Turbo Upgrade kit to kick its 2.0L turbo direct injection engine into gear. The kit consists of a new engine calibration and MAP sensors that will push your turbo four to 290 horsepower and up to 340 lb-ft of torque with the six-speed manual transmission (315 - 325 lb-ft with a slush box). The new factory turbo kit also keeps the precious warranty intact, which is a huge bonus over other aftermarket setups.

The LNF Turbo Upgrade also gives the GXP, Redline and SS the same "no-lift shift" functionality as the Cobalt SS Turbo, which enables you to shift without taking your foot off the accelerator. The kit also bumps the redline by 200 to 6500, but the hulkified 2.0L engine will now demand premium fuel to deliver its increased power delivery. The General is also working on a similar upgrade kit for the Cobalt SS, and it should arrive at your local Chevy dealer during Q1 2009. The LNF turbo kit delivers some added pop to three already fun vehicles, and it can be purchased at a GM dealer for $650

Now this is interesting.

Yeah, the kit is interesting and reasonably priced. I have heard previously tuning on that motor was a bitch. I guess no matter what you did, the ECU would always compensate and bring your boost level back to stock :(

I heard of a guy that turned that Eco-Tech 4 cyl around to RWD and made 200+ MPH. I'd think about dropping a hot SBC in the thing and going from there. I know you've got some spare parts collecting dust.
