View Full Version : 2010 Ford Taurus SHO ATTN: GUNFISH

Rumor is that Ford is working on a TT 3.5 V6 Ford Taurus SHO. Here is the text on the mules that have been running around with SHO on the dash:
"Could it be? Right in the midst of my own personal search for a mint Gen 1 (1989-1991) Taurus SHO comes pictoral proof that Ford may be resurrecting the Super High Output model. What we have here is one of many images published by Jalopnik showing the "SHO" moniker in its traditional font on the passenger side dash of a 2010 Ford Taurus.
What does it all mean? That's tough to say. The safe bet is that Ford may be developing a Taurus SHO concept car that could debut after the standard model is revealed at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show next month. It would also be safe to assume that a Taurus SHO would be powered by Ford's new EcoBoost V6, which is rumored to produce 350 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. That's a heaping helping more than the 220 hp produced by the Yamaha-built 3.0L V6 in the original SHO, but there's also a lot more Taurus to haul around these days.
While it's possible that Ford could be adding the SHO trim level back to the Taurus line, we hope these pictures portend the arrival of a concept car only. You might be wondering how such an avid SHO fan could speak such blasphemy, and the answer is that today's Taurus is far removed from the original that shocked the industry back in 1986. Back then the Taurus was a mid-size family sedan with a futuristic design that broke the mold, and the SHO was heralded as an M3 at half the price when it arrived in 1989. Today's Taurus is just too big and expensive to wear those shoes, though an M5 on sale for 50% off sounds tempting. If we're being honest, however, a Fusion SHO tuned by SVT would be irresistible."

A SHO fusion would be pretty cool. What I would like to see though is a Focus with a turbo to compete with the Neons/Evos/WRXs

You're just bitter because if they build the SHO it would mean you're not the only FWD Turbo 6 on the planet :leaving:

I'd like to see it, but in a 2-door model like the NASCAR version. 4-doors = Taxicab. :)

There are some wicked badass 4 door cars these days. Consider the Cadillac CTS-V. Of course that ain't no Tuarus. :smack:

4-doors = extra dead weight. Fine for a pops car/family sedan/taxicab. 2-doors are performance cars. Why carry the extra weight? Especially when you have a relatively small engine for power. There's a reason why NASCAR doesn't race 4-door bodies ;)
And I am talking about the Busch cars. That COT cup car is a freaking joke. Toyota...bah!!!

I agree for the most part, but I'll take this 4-door any day of the week. I think 470RWHP and 475RWTQ will get the job done nicely :drink:

Sorry...but I'm not impressed. Nobody ever raced a dyno at a racetrack. :D
I could mount a crew cab truck on a dyno with a monster engine in it. That doesn't necessarily mean it will be fast at the track.

It laps the Ring in under 8 minutes. That's faster than a C5 Corvette. Impressive.

It's expensive, but compared to an M5 or an AMG 63 not too bad. It is coming out in a 2-door later by the way:

Fast enough when on my way to corporate take over meetings. ;) I'd use a turbo FoxBody at the strip or something else purpose built.
$60k-$69k, which is CHEAP in this category. I'd totally buy one if a) I needed a car b) had the money c) wasn't so pissed at the UAW. But other than that.

I wouldn't count on ANY of those future/concept cars coming out. Barry O is gonna insist on "green cars" that run on used hamburger grease or wind power from the big 3.
I would never buy that version of a Caddy anyway. Give me one of those big 4-door slugs if I am gonna have luxury. :D

The SHO is pretty much confirmed at this point and will be shown at the Chicago Auto Show. Here are some spy pics though:

out of curiosity, if the government took the bailout money and rather than giving it to automakers said
"anyone who buys a car from ____ (insert gm/chrysler etc) gets it for, half price, up to a $20K maximum per household" wouldnt that pretty much skyrocket sales/production and stimulate the whole industry without giving the bosses a chance to take the money and run?
I guess i just want a brand new c6 for 23 grand but whatever, just a thought.

You mean like a voucher? Mmm, that's actually one the more interesting ideas I've heard. I don't like it, but it's a lot better than a frantic capitalization of bad organizations with money that doesn't exist. . . .

Drop the price of an Escort down to the price the 1971 Pinto used to be and I'd buy one. None of these cars are worth what the car makers are asking, even at 1/2 the price.

You are PAYING for those pimp rims. Will Ford swap them for cheap steel wheels so you don't get hosed down for their poor taste (and cut the price in the process)?

I was just looking at this. I think I'm going to give the SHO a new thread now that it's official.
